Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the film adaptation of Judy Blume’s classic novel Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig and starring Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Dune, Gladiator, The Dark Knight, Interstellar, Inception). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Also opening wide is the biographical drama Big George Foreman directed by George Tillman Jr. and starring Khris Davis, Jasmine Mathews, Sullivan Jones, John Magaro, Lawrence Gilliard Jr. and Sonja Sohn. Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Emancipation, The AffairWonder, Enough Said, The Good Shepherd, Ray Donovan) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening nationwide is the action comedy Polite Society written and directed by Nida Manzoor and starring Priya Kansara, Ritu Arya, Seraphina Beh, Ella Bruccoleri, Nimra Bucha and Akshay Khanna. Opening in select theaters is the shark thriller The Black Demon directed by Adrian Grunberg and starring Josh Lucas, Fernanda Urrejola, Julio Cesar Cedillo, Venus Ariel and Carlos Solórzano. The film’s original music is composed by Leonardo Heiblum & Jacobo Lieberman (Maria Full of Grace, The Silence of Others, Prayers for the Stolen, I Am Vanessa Guillen). Also opening in select theaters is the documentary Nuclear Now directed by Oliver Stone and based on the book A Bright Future by Joshua S. Goldstein. Vangelis (Chariots of Fire, Blade Runer, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, Alexander, The Bounty) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a release of the composer’s final film score. The movie, which explores the possibility for the global community to overcome the challenges of climate change and energy poverty through the power of nuclear energy, premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and is being distributed by Abramorama.
