Five new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:

Already playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the animated sequel Sing 2 written and directed by Garth Jennings and starring Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, Bono, Tori Kelly, Nick Kroll, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Letitia Wright and Pharrell Williams. The film’s original score is composed by Joby Talbot (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the GalaxyClosed CircuitPenelope). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week (click here for the full album details) and Republic Records has released a separate album featuring the songs from the movie (including original tracks by  Sam I, Anitta, BIA & Jarina De Marco) last week (click here for more information).

Also playing in theaters since Wednesday is the sci-fi action sequel The Matrix Resurrections co-written and directed by Lana Wachowski and starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Jada Pinkett Smith. Johnny Klimek & Tom Tykwer (Cloud Atlas, Run Lola Run, The International, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer) have composed the film’s original music. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as eleven remixes last week. Another movie that opened nationwide on Wednesday is the spy action comedy The King’s Man co-written and directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, Rhys Ifans, Djimon Hounsou, Harris Dickinson Tom Hollander, Daniel Brühl and Charles Dance. The film’s original music is composed by Matthew Margeson (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar ChildrenEddie the Eagle, Rocketman) and Dominic Lewis (Peter RabbitThe Man in the High CastleGoosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score earlier this week. Opening nationwide tomorrow is the sports drama American Underdog directed by Andrew & Jon Erwin and starring Zachary Levi, Anna Paquin and Dennis Quaid. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ,  Iron Man 2, The Jungle Book, ElfHocus Pocus) has composed the film’s original score and Jeremy Redmon has contributed additional music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music today. Check out our previous news article for the full album details. Also opening wide tomorrow is the drama A Journal for Jordan directed by Denzel Washington and starring Michael B. Jordan, Chanté Adams and Jalon Christian. The film’s original music is composed by Marcelo Zarvos (WonderFences, The Good Shepherd, The Affair, Ray Donovan, Enough Said, The Door in the Floor). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last Friday. Opening in select theaters tomorrow before premiering on January 14 on Apple TV+ is the new film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play The Tragedy of Macbeth written and directed by Joel Coen and starring Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand, Brendan Gleeson, Corey Hawkin and Harry Melling. Carter Burwell (Fargo, True Grit, CarolTwilight, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score in the next few weeks. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the Spanish drama Parallel Mothers (Madres paralelas) written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar and starring Penélope Cruz, Milena Smit, Israel Elejalde, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Julieta Serrano and Rossy De Palma. The film’s original music is composed by Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener, Tinker Tailor Soldier SpyThe Kite Runner,  Pain & GloryVolver). Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score this past October when the movie opened in Spain. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Wind River, Hell or High WaterThe Road) have composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore and INVADA Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last Friday.
