Jeff Russo has been tapped to score the upcoming drama The Three Christs of Ypsilanti. The film is directed by Jon Avnet (Fried Green Tomatoes, Up Close & Personal, The War) and stars Richard Gere, Walton Goggins, Peter Dinklage, Julianna Margulies and Bradley Whitford. The movie revolves around a doctor who is treating three paranoid schizophrenic patients at the Ypsilanti State Hospital in Michigan, each of whom believe they are Jesus Christ. Avnet also co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Nazarian based on the biographical novel by Milton Rokeach. The director is also producing the project for his Brooklyn Films company, alongside Aaron Stern, Molly Hassell (Edmond, Jackie & Ryan), Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier. The Three Christs of Ypsilanti is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in 2017.
Russo’s other upcoming feature projects also include the romantic thriller Submission written and directed by Richard Levine (Nip/Tuck, Every Day) and starring Stanley Tucci, Kyra Sedgwick, Addison Timlin and Janeane Garofalo. The movie is based on the bestselling novel Blue Angel by Francine Prose and centers around a cynical college professor who takes a keen interest in a talented young writing student. Jared Ian Goldman (Adult Beginners) is producing the project for Mighty Engine, alongside Wren Arthur (A Prairie Home Companion) for Olive Productions. The movie is also expected to premiere next year.
The composer’s current TV projects include the upcoming FX series Legend, the third season of Fargo, the second season of Fox’s Lucifer, CBS’ Bull, ABC’s Time After Time and Starz’s Power.
