The Scottish hip hop trio Young Fathers (Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole & ‘G’ Hastings) are composing the original music for the upcoming post-apocalyptic horror feature 28 Years Later. The film is directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) and stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams and Ralph Fiennes. The movie takes place 28 years after the events of the 2002 original 28 Days Later film and its sequel 28 Weeks Later (both scored by John Murphy) and follows a group of survivors who have found ways to exist amidst the infected on a small island. When one of them leaves the island on a mission into the heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well. Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Civil War) who previously scripted Boyle’s 28 Days Later wrote the screenplay. Boyle & Garland are also producing the project with Andrew Macdonald (Far from the Madding Crowd, Devs), Peter Rice (Warfare, Saturday Night) and Bernie Bellew (Yesterday). Young Fathers have previously contributed several songs to Boyle’s T2: Trainspotting. 28 Years Later will be released in theaters nationwide on June 20, by Sony Pictures.
As previously reported, Hildur Guđnadóttir is scoring the Nia DaCosta-directed sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 16, 2026.
