Plaza Mayor Company will release a soundtrack album for the Japanese historical drama The Samurai and the Prisoner. The album features the film’s original music composed by Yoshihiro Hanno (Mountains May Depart, Winter Boy, The Best Is Yet to Come, Revolver Lily). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 12 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A CD version will be available to order here within the next few weeks. The Samurai and the Prisoner is written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and stars Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, Yuriko Yoshitaka, Munetaka Aoki, Tasuku Emoto, Ryota Miyadate and Joe Odagiri. The movie based Honobu Yonezawa’s novel of the same title is set in 16th century Japan and follows Lord Murashige Araki as he rises up against the tyrannical Nobunaga Oda and finds himself besieged within the walls of his own castle.

Yoshihiro Hanno Scoring Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s ‘Kokurojo: The Samurai and the Prisoner’
Yoshihiro Hanno (Mountains May Depart, The Best Is Yet to Come, Winter Boy, Revolver Lily) has been tapped to score the upcoming Japanese period drama Kokurojo: The Samurai and the Prisoner. The film is written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cloud, Wife of a Spy) and stars Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, Yuriko Yoshitaka, Munetaka Aoki, Tasuku Emoto, Ryota Miyadate and Joe Odagiri. ‘Cloud’ Soundtrack Released
Takuma Watanabe (Chime, Aristocrats, A Beautiful Star) has released a soundtrack album for the Japanese psychological thriller Cloud (Kuraudo). The album, which features the composer’s original score from the film, was released in Japan and several other markets last fall and is now available worldwide on all major digital music platforms, including Amazon. Cloud is written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and stars Masaki Suda, Kotone Furukawa, Daiken Okudaira, Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Amane Okayama and Masataka Kubota. The movie follows an ambitious young factory worker from Tokyo who side hustles in the murky realm of black market reselling who – after swindling his way into loads of cash – becomes slowly disconnected to humanity.
‘The Serpent’s Path’ Soundtrack Album Released
ENKA has released a soundtrack album for the French/Japanese crime thriller The Serpent’s Path (Le Chemin du Serpent). The album features the film’s original music composed by Nicolas Errèra (Raging Fire, Hidden Man,Shaolin, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, My Night, Adoring, Mountain Cry). The Serpent’s Path is co-written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and stars Damien Bonnard, Shibasaki Ko, Mathieu Almaric and Grégoire Colin. The movie is based on Kurosawa’s 1998 Japanese feature of the same title and follows a mysterious woman who teams up with a man who is seeking revenge after his daughter was killed to kidnap members of an criminal organization and torture them to find out what really happened.
‘Daguerrotype’ Soundtrack Announced
A soundtrack album has been announced for Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s fantasy drama Daguerrotype (Le secret de la chambre noire). The album features the film’s original music composed by Grégoire Hetzel (Incendies, My Golden Days, The Tree). The soundtrack will be released overseas on February 24, 2017 by Cristal Records. Daguerrotype is co-written and directed by Kurosawa (Pulse, Tokyo Sonata) and stars Tahar Rahim, Constance Rousseau, Olivier Gourmet and Mathieu Amalric. The movie follows an aging photographer whose obsession with an archaic technique draws his young assistant and beautiful daughter into a dark and mysterious world.
