Plaza Mayor Company will release a soundtrack album for the Japanese historical drama The Samurai and the Prisoner. The album features the film’s original music composed by Yoshihiro Hanno (Mountains May Depart, Winter Boy, The Best Is Yet to Come, Revolver Lily). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 12 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A CD version will be available to order here within the next few weeks. The Samurai and the Prisoner is written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and stars Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, Yuriko Yoshitaka, Munetaka Aoki, Tasuku Emoto, Ryota Miyadate and Joe Odagiri. The movie based Honobu Yonezawa’s novel of the same title is set in 16th century Japan and follows Lord Murashige Araki as he rises up against the tyrannical Nobunaga Oda and finds himself besieged within the walls of his own castle. The drama will premiere this month at the Cannes Film Festival and is set to open in Japanese theaters on June 19. Janus Films has picked up domestic distribution rights for a domestic release later this year.
