Composer Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool 2, John Wick, 300, Atomic Blonde, Watchmen, X, Dawn of the Dead) is reuniting with director Stephen Kay (Boogeyman, Yellowstone) on the upcoming psychological thriller Answr. The film is written and directed by Kay and stars Moises Arias, Rain Spencer, Piper Perabo, Lilli Kay, José María Yazpik, Siddiq Saunderson and Simon Rex. The movie follows a grieving young man who retreats to a remote weather station in search of solitude, until he begins testing an experimental AI chatbot that offers empathy and affirmation. Kay is also producing the project with Natalya Pavchinskya, Jomon Thomas (Hotel Mumbai, Monkey Man), Sarena Khan, Sharad Devarajan, Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Adam Sidman (Searching). Bates has previously scored Kay’s first two features, The Last Time I Committed Suicide & Get Carter. Answr was recently completed and will screen for buyer’s at this month’s Cannes market. Bates’ other recent feature projects include One Spoon of Chocolate (co-scored with RZA), which just opened in theaters earlier this month. He also continues to co-score Paramount+’s Criminal Minds (Evolution), which will return for a new season on May 28, as well as CBS’ Tracker, which has been renewed for a fourth season.
