According to the film’s latest trailer, Hans Zimmer has taken over scoring duties on Gore Verbinski’s upcoming western The Lone Ranger. The film stars Armie Hammer in the title role of the masked crime fighter and Johnny Depp as his Native American sidekick from the popular 1950s TV series. Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner and Barry Pepper are co-starring in the film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) has written the script with Terry Rossio & Ted Elliott (The Mask of Zorro). Zimmer has previously collaborated with Verbinski on the Pirates of the Caribbean films, The Ring and last year’s animated feature Rango. The composer is taking over for Jack White, lead guitarist and vocalist of the rock band White Stripes and member of the Raconteur and the Dead Weather, who was previously announced as the composer of the movie.

Hans Zimmer Composes New Theme for ‘ABC World News’
Hans Zimmer has composed a new theme for ABC World News. It was the first time the music has been updated since the year 2000. The program anchored by Diane Sawyer on weekdays and by David Muir on weekends also debuted a new logo, graphics package in addition to the updated music this week. Expanded ‘Black Rain’ Soundtrack Announced
La-La Land Records has announced an expanded and remastered soundtrack release for Ridley Scott’s 1989 action thriller Black Rain starring Michael Douglas, Andy Garcia and Ken Takakura. The 2-CD set features the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer on one disc and the original 1989 album (which includes such songs as I’ll Be Holding On performed Gregg Allman, Livin’ on the Edge of the Night by Iggy Pop and The Way You Do the Things You Do by UB 40), as well as a number of bonus tracks on the second disc. The Sound and Music of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
SoundWorks Collection has published a new video profile on the sound and music of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. In the 9-minute video, composer Hans Zimmer and supervising sound editor and sound designer Richard King talk about their work on the final chapter in Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Hans Zimmer Composes Tribute Piece for Aurora Victims
Following the recent tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, Hans Zimmer who composed the score for The Dark Knight Rises has recorded a new eight-minute piece in London in the days following the events as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Aurora Victim Relief organization. The track is available internationally on iTunes and those in the US can also donate and listen through MoonToast.

Opening in limited release is the documentary The Queen of Versailles directed by Lauren Greenfield about a billionaire couple who live in a 90,000-square-foot mansion inspired by Versailles, built on the success of the time-share industry. Jeff Beal (Appaloosa, HBO’s Rome) has composed the film’s score. A soundtrack album featuring Beal’s music has been released digitally on Lakeshore Records. Hans Zimmer at ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ European Premiere
Hans Zimmer attended today’s European premiere of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises at Leicester Square in London. Red Carpet News TV caught the composer on the red carpet and talked to him about his music and process of scoring the final installment in Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Hans Zimmer to Score ‘Man of Steel’
Hans Zimmer has signed on to score Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot Man of Steel. The film stars Henry Cavill in the title role, alongside Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. Christopher Meloni, Laurence Fishburne and Michael Shannon are also starring. David Goyer (Batman Begins, Blade) has written the screenplay. Christopher Nolan who has worked with Zimmer on Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception and the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises is producing the DC Entertainment production with Emma Thomas, Charles Roven (Three Kings, Twelve Monkeys) and Deborah Snyder (Watchmen). Snyder has previously collaborated with composer Tyler Bates on his previous features, including Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Dawn of the Dead and 300.
