The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo is written and directed by Diego Céspedes and stars Tamara Cortés, Matías Catalán and Paula Dinamarca. The movie, which has been selected as the Chilean entry in the International Feature category for this year’s Academy Awards, is set in a dusty Chilean mining town in 1982 and follows a 11-year-old girl raised by a fierce queer community as she faces fear, violence, and love’s transformative power.

The Victoria System is co-written and directed by Sylvain Desclous and stars Damien Bonnard and Jeanne Balibar. The movie is based on Eric Reinhardt’s best-selling novel of the same title and follows a man overseeing the construction of the highest tower ever built in France who meets the head of HR at a multinational company and becomes trapped in her system that is beyond his control.

The movie centers on a strange and solitary girl with a magical gift who can reproduce any scent she likes and collects them in a series of carefully labelled jars.

22D Music has released a soundtrack album for the French animated feature Calamity – A Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary (Calamity, une enfance de Martha Jane Cannary). The album features the film’s original music is composed by Florencia di Concilio (Cartagena, Dark Blood, Love Hotel). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also check out audio samples. A vinyl edition will be released later this month. Calamity is directed by Rémi Chayé (Long Way North), produced by Maybe Movies (Ernest & Celestine, Zombillénium) and tells the story of the 12-year-old Martha Jane who must take charge of her siblings after her father is hurt in a serious accident while driving a large convoy to the West in search for a better life.
