Pierre Adenot is composing the score for Christophe Gans’ upcoming film adaptation of Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bete). The French language film stars Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux. Gans has also written the screenplay based on one of the earliest published variants of the classic fairy tale, included in Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve’s 1740′s collection Jeune Ameriquaine et les Contes Marins. André Dussollier is co-starring. Richard Grandpierre (Brotherhood of the Wolf, Zulu) is producing the project for Eskwad, along Pathe Production. Gans’ previous films featured music by Jeff Danna & Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill), Joseph LoDuca (Brotherhood of the Wolf) and Patrick O’Hearn (Crying Freeman).

Airing tonight is the 100th episode of the CBS hit drama The Mentalist. Blake Neely (Arrow, The Pacific) has been written the music for the entire series, beginning with the pilot episode in 2008. For the landmark episode – a flashback to the main character Patrick Jane’s (played by Simon Baker) first few days in the California Bureau of Investigation – Neely’s score employs a poetic 100 different instruments, and treats central character themes like debut statements. Neely’s music is mainly electronic, with live instruments layered in. Neely’s palette for the series has been defined both by musical voices he chooses not to include (brass, clarinet), as well as the use of several unorthodox instruments. The 100th episode of The Mentalist airs tonight on CBS.
Claude Foisy Scoring ‘Beauty and the Beast’
Claude Foisy is currently scoring the new CW drama Beauty and the Beast. The composer has started working on the series with last week’s episode Proceed with Caution and will be writing the score for the rest of the first season. Mark Isham has scored the pilot episode, which premiered two weeks ago. The show stars Kristin Kreuk as a homicide detective who witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen when she was a teenager and is about to uncover the mystery of the “beast” that saved her ten years later. Jay Ryan, Austin Basis, Max Brown, Nina Lisandrello and Brian White are also starring.
Mark Isham Scoring ABC’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Pilot
Mark Isham has been hired to score the pilot for the ABC drama Beauty and the Beast. The reimagining of the classic fairy tale stars Darius Campbell, F. Murray Abraham, Ruth Bradley, Chris Egan, Karen LeBlanc and Meegan Warner. The show written and executive produced by Jon Steinberg (Jericho, Human Target) is set in a dangerous world where a beautiful and tough princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast. Yves Simoneau (V, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) has directed the pilot of the ABC Studios production. Also executive producing is Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury) through his Mojo Films production company. Isham has previously collaborated with Fleder on several movies, including the thrillers Kiss the Girls and Don’t Say a World. He is also scoring ABC’s other fairy tale-themed show Once Upon a Time, which is about to air its first season finale.

Three movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the thriller Contraband directed by Baltasar Kormakur and starring Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Lukas Haas, Giovanni Ribisi, Diego Luna and J.K. Simmons. Clinton Shorter (District 9) has written the music for the film. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the movie’s songs performed by J Roddy Walston and the Business, Eli “Paperboy” Reed and The True Loves, Ryan Shaw, The Heavy and Big Head Todd & The Monsters. Also coming out this weekend is the gospel-choir comedy Joyful Noise written and directed by Todd Graff and stars Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Kris Kristofferson, Courtney B. Vance and Jesse L. Martin. The film’s score is written by Mervyn Warren who also arranged and produced the film’s songs performed by the cast.
