The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced the performers of the Oscar-nominated original songs, which will be performed during the lead-in show, Oscars: Into the Spotlight, prior to the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, April 25. Celeste & composer Daniel Pemberton will perform Hear My Voice from Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, H.E.R. will perform Fight for You from Shaka King’s Judas and the Black Messiah, Laura Pausini & Diane Warren will perform Io Si (Seen) from Eduardo Ponti’s The Life Ahead, Leslie Odom, Jr. will perform Speak Now from Regina King’s One Night in Miami… and Molly Sandén will perform Húsavík from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

Questlove to Serve as Oscars Musical Director
Oscars show producers Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh announced today that Questlove has joined the Oscars production team as the show’s musical director. He follows Bill Conti, Marc Shaiman, William Ross, Harold Wheeler, Rickey Minor, among others who have previously been selected as music directors. Questlove who best known as a drummer, DJ, producer, author and founding member of hip hop group The Roots is an Academy member himself and has performed on the Oscars previously.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced the shortlists for several categories for the 93rd Academy Awards, including Original Score and Original Song. The shortlisted scores and songs are listed in alphabetical order below. The nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards will be announced on March 15, 2021 and the awards show will be held on April 25.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 819 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Academy Announces Rule Change in ‘Original Score’ Category
The Academy’s Board of Governors has approved rules and campaign regulations for the 93rd Academy Awards, including a minor rule change for the Original Score category. According to the updated rules, “a score must be created specifically for the eligible feature-length motion picture and comprise a minimum of 60% of the total music in the film. If a score does not meet the minimum 60%, the composer may submit a letter to the Branch Executive Committee, stating reasons for the score to be accepted for consideration. All letters must be received by the due dates published by the Academy for the current awards cycle. In cases such as sequels and franchises from any media, the score must consist of more than 80% newly composed music which does not contain any pre-existing themes borrowed from previous scores in the franchise”.

Idina Menzel and a group of vocal performers for Elsa from countries around the world sang the Kristen Anderson-Lopez- & Robert Lopez-written Into the Unknown from Disney’s Frozen II, Chrissy Metz performed the Diane Warren-penned I’m Standing with You from Breakthrough, Randy Newman performed his song I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away from Pixar’s Toy Story 4, Cynthia Erivo performed Stand Up (which she co-wrote with Joshuah Brian Campbell) from Harriet and Elton John performed his Oscar-winning song (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again (co-written with Bernie Taupin) from Rocketman.
Hildur Guðnadóttir Wins Academy Award for ‘Joker’
Hildur Guðnadóttir was honored with her first Academy Award for her score for Todd Phillips’ Joker at tonight’s 92nd Oscar ceremony. The composer who previously received a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award for her work on the film was also nominated the first time. Check out her acceptance speech after the jump. The other nominated composers in the Best Original Score category were Thomas Newman (1917), Alexandre Desplat (Little Women), Randy Newman (Marriage Story) and John Williams (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker).

92nd Academy Awards Nominations Announced
