Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the upcoming drama The Way Back directed by Peter Weir. The album will include 14 tracks of Burkhard Dallwitz’ original score. Dallwitz previously scored The Truman Show for the director. The Way Back tells the fact-based story centered on soldiers who escaped from a Siberian gulag in 1940. The movie stars Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, Saoirse Ronan and Ed Harris. Klaus Badelt’s score for the French/German drama Small World has been made available on Klaus Badelt’s online store. The album contains contains 23 score tracks by Badelt, which can be downloaded for the price of your choice at Badelt’s website. The film directed by Bruno Chiche stars Gerard Depardieu and Alexandra Maria Lara. The movie will be released in Germany on December 16. Nico Muhly scoring ‘Limitless’

According to the movie’s trailer, Nico Muhly is composing the music for the upcoming thriller Limitless. The movie, which was originally entitled The Dark Fields is directed by Neil Burger and stars Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish, Robert De Niro and Anna Friel. In the film, a copywriter discovers a top-secret drug which bestows him with super human abilities. Director Burger previously worked with composers Philip Glass on The Illusionist and Rolfe Kent on The Lucky Ones. Muhly himself worked with Glass on such scores as The Hours, Notes on a Scandal and Cassandra’s Dream, possibly explaining his involvement in the movie. Limitless marks Muhly’s first big feature assignment since the Academy Award-nominated 2008 drama The Reader starring Kate Winslet. Read the rest of this entry »
Chris Bacon to take over ‘Source Code’

According to director Duncan Jones, Chris Bacon has replaced Clint Mansell as the composer on the upcoming sci-fi movie Source Code. Mansell had been working on the score for the film as reported here back in October, but according to Jones, scheduling conflicts kept the composer from completing the soundtrack. Chris Bacon, whose previous feature credits include this year’s Love Ranch and Alpha and Omega, as well as numerous credits on James Newton Howard’s scores, has taken over scoring duties. ‘Rabbit Hole’ soundtrack details

Brian Tyler to score ‘Fast Five’

As previously announced by the composer, Brian Tyler has been hired to score the upcoming action sequel Fast Five. The movie marks Brian Tyler’s and director Justin Lin’s third film in the series after The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and last year’s Fast & Furious. The film’s cast includes Vin Diesel, Paul Walker Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Ludacris Bridges and Dwayne Johnson. In Fast Five, Dominic (Diesel) and his crew find themselves on the wrong side of the law once again as they try to switch lanes between a ruthless drug lord and a relentless federal agent. David Julyan scoring ‘The Cabin in the Woods’

David Julyan recently finished scoring the upcoming horror thriller The Cabin in the Woods. The movie is described as a new twist on the cabin in the woods/young-people-stranded-in-the-woods scenario. The film is written and directed by Drew Goddard and co-written by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the upcoming The Avengers). Goddard is best known as a writer on the TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias, Lost and the 2008 hit film Cloverfield. The Cabin in the Woods stars Richard Jenkins, Chris Hemsworth, Bradley Whitford and Jesse Williams. The film was originally scheduled to be released early next year, but is currently without a release date because of MGM’s restructuring plans. Steve Jablonsky to return for ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’

Steve Jablonsky will be back to score Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The third part in the series is once again directed by Michael Bay who has been working with Jablonsky on his last couple of movies. The sci-fi action sequel is written by Ehren Kruger and stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Malkovich, Patrick Dempsey, Ken Jeong, Alan Tudyk, Frances McDormand and John Turturro. In the movie, autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and learn its secrets, which could turn the tide in the Transformers’ final battle. Film Music Reporter has learned that James Newton Howard recently started scoring the upcoming comedy drama Larry Crowne. The movie is directed by Tom Hanks and stars himself as a middle-aged man, who reinvents himself after losing his job by going back to college. The movie also stars Julia Roberts, Taraji P. Henson and Pam Grier. James Newton Howard previously scored the pairing of Hanks and Roberts in Charlie Wilson’s War and scored numerous movies starring Julia Roberts including Pretty Woman, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Runaway Bride, America’s Sweethearts and most recently Duplicity. The movie’s screenplay is co-written by Hanks and Nia Vardalos, whose hit indie comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding was produced by Hanks.
