Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the sci-fi thriller In Time. The album includes the original score by composer Craig Armstrong. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 25, 2011. A physical release has been set for November 29 and the CD is available for pre-order on Amazon. In Time is directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord of War) and stars Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Cillian Murphy and Alex Pettyfer. Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expecting to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi action film Real Steel directed by Shawn Levy and starring Hugh Jackman, Kevin Durand, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie and Hope Davis. The movie’s score is composed by Danny Elfman. A soundtrack album featuring his score will be released on November 1 by Varese Sarabande (click here for the details). A separate soundtrack featuring songs from the movie by artists including Bad Meets Evil, Beastie Boys and Foo Fighters, as well as one track from Elfman’s score has been released on Interscope Records. Also opening wide is the drama The Ides of March directed by George Clooney and starring Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei, Max Minghella and Jeffrey Wright. The film’s music is written by Alexandre Desplat. As reported on this page last month, Varese Sarabande has announced a score album to be released on November 1. Cliff Martinez to Score ‘Arbitrage’

Cliff Martinez is currently scoring the indie drama Arbitrage. The movie is directed by Nicholas Jarecki and stars Richard Gere as a troubled hedge fund magnate who is forced to turn to an unlikely ally when he makes an error. Tim Roth, Susan Sarandon, Laetitia Casta, Brit Marling and Josh Pais are co-starring in the drama produced by Laura Bickford (Duplicity), Robert Salerno (21 Grams), Kevin Turen (An American Crime) and Justin Nappi. Bickford has previously produced the Martinez-scored drama Traffic. No word yet on whether any music by J. Ralph who was originally announced as the composer of Arbitrage will remain in the movie. ‘Real Steel’ Score Album Details

Varese Sarabande has announced the details for the score album for the sci-fi action movie Real Steel. The soundtrack features 19 tracks of the score composed by Danny Elfman. The album will be released on November 1, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A separate soundtrack featuring a number of songs from the movie and one score track by Elfman has been released earlier this week by Interscope Records (click here for more details and audio clips). Real Steel is directed by Shawn Levy and revolves around 2,000-pound robots that look like humans do battles.

Clint Eastwood Scoring ‘J. Edgar’

Clint Eastwood has recently recorded his original music for his latest directorial effort J. Edgar. The orchestral score was recorded at the Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. J. Edgar stars Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover, head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nearly 50 years. Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer, Judi Dench, Stephen Root, Josh Lucas, Dermot Mulroney and Jeffrey Donovan are co-starring. The biopic is written by Dustin Lance Black (Milk). ‘The Greatest Miracle’ Score Released

BSX Records has released the soundtrack album for the 3D animated family movie The Greatest Miracle. The album includes the original score from the film by Mark McKenzie. The composer incorporated over 100 musicians and performers into the score including an 80 piece orchestra, a choir, a women’s choir, and the acclaimed London boys choir “Libera”. The soundtrack is available on the label’s website, as well as on iTunes, where you also check out audio clips from the album. The Greatest Miracle (El Gran Milagro) is directed by Bruce Morris (Finding Nemo, The Princess and the Frog) and produced by Mexico City-based Pablo Barosso and Claudia Nemer. Alberto Iglesias to Receive Hollywood Film Composer Award

Alberto Iglesias is the recipient of the Hollywood Film Composer Award at this year’s Hollywood Film Festival for his scores for the John Le Carre film adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy and Pedro Almadovar’s The Skin I Live In starring Antonio Banderas. Iglesias will collect his statuette at the Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Oct. 24. Badly Drawn Boy (aka Damon Gough) has recently recorded his score for the comedy drama Another Bullshit Night in Suck City. The movie based on the memoir of Nick Flynn is adapted for the screen and directed by Paul Weitz (Little Fockers, In Good Company). The film starring Robert De Niro and Paul Dana tells the story of a young writer who takes a job at a homeless shelter in Boston where one night he discovers his long-absent father seeking a bed. Julianne Moore and Olivia Thirlby are co-starring. Weitz is also producing the project with Michael Costigan (Cyrus, Smart People) and Andrew Miano (A Single Man, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist).
