ComingSoon.net is reporting that Michael Giacchino has confirmed that he will be returning to score the upcoming (currently untitled) Star Trek sequel. The assignment was expected as the composer has previously scored all of director J.J. Abrams’ previous movies, including the first Star Trek film in 2009. All primary cast members are expected to return for the sequel, including Chris Pine, Zachary  Quinto and Zoe Saldana. Abrams is co-writing the script with Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Transformers). It has also just been announced that the movie will be shot in 3D and has been set for a release on May 17, 2013. Giacchino has been doing a lot of press in the last couple of days about his score for Super 8, which has been released on Blu-Ray and DVD this past Tuesday. Robert Folk has recently scored the epic historical drama There Be Dragons: Secrets of Passion. The film directed by Roland Joffé (The Mission) and produced by James Ordonez stars Charlie Cox, Wes Bentley, Dougray Scott, Rodrigo Santoro, Derek Jacobi and Olga Kurylenko. The movie is set during the Spanish Civil War and revolves around two childhood friends who became separated during the political conflict to find themselves on opposite sides as war erupts. As reported earlier this year, Stephen Warbeck has scored the original version of There Be Dragons that was released in theaters this past May. ‘The Lady’ Soundtrack Details

SME Strategic Marketing Group will be releasing the official soundtrack album for Luc Besson’s drama The Lady. The album includes the original score by the director’s regular musical collaborator Eric Serra, as well as the song Soldier of Love by Sade. The soundtrack is scheduled to come out digitally on November 28, 2011 in Europe. A physical release is set to be released on December 6 overseas and is available as an import on Amazon. No word yet on a domestic release of the soundtrack, but check back on this site for updates. The Lady stars Michelle Yeoh as the political activist Aung San Suu Kyi who spent almost 15 years under house arrest in Burma until November of last year and David Thewlis as her husband Michael Aris. Cinema Musica has uploaded the first audio previews of the soundtrack for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows by composer Hans Zimmer. As reported last week, the soundtrack will be released by WaterTower Music on December 13, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Alexandre Desplat is set to reunite with director Florent Emilio Siri on the upcoming biographical drama Cloclo. The composer has scored all of the director’s previous features, including the Bruce Willis-starring thriller Hostage, the crime thriller The Nest and most recently, the historical drama L’ennemi intime. Cloclo stars Jérémie Renier as French singer Claude François who was a star of “chanson française” in the 1960 and 70s and died in a tragic accident in 1978, at the age of 39. Benoît Magimel, Monica Scattini, Ana Girardot, Joséphine Japy and Robert Knepper who plays Frank Sinatra are co-starring in the drama. Julien Rappeneau (The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch) has written the screenplay and Cyril Colbeau-Justin & Jean-Baptiste Dupont (36th Precint, Point Blank) are producing the project. WaterTower Music has announced a soundtrack album for Garry Marshall’s ensemble comedy New Year’s Eve. The album includes a number of songs from the movie by artists, including Jon Bon Jovi, actress Lea Michele, Kate York, Goo Goo Dolls, P!nk, Katie Herzig, Charles Brown, Duncan and Sophie B. Hawkins. None of the original score by John Debney is included on the album, but a separate score album might be released at a later date (just as with Marshall’s previous movie Valentine’s Day). Javier Navarrete has been hired to score the fantasy movie Wrath of the Titans. The film is the sequel to the 2010 hit film Clash of the Titans and stars Sam Worthington who is reprising his turn as Perseus, Liam Neeson as Zeus, Ralph Fiennes as Hades and Danny Huston as Poseidon. They are joined by new cast members Edgar Ramirez, Rosamund Pike and Bill Nighy. The movie is directed by Jonathan Liebesman who has worked with composer Brian Tyler on his last couple of projects (Battle Los Angeles, The Killing Room). David Leslie Johnson (Orphan, Red Riding Hood), Dan Mazeau and Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) have written the screenplay and Basil Iwanyk (The Town) is returning as a producer of the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures production. Labelzero has released a soundtrack album for the French thriller Rebellion (L’ordre et la morale). The album includes the original score by composer Klaus Badelt. The composer collaborated with French industrial percussion band Les Tambours du Bronx on the music for the film. The soundtrack is available digitally on Klaus Badelt’s official website and can be purchased for the price of your choice. Rebellion is co-written and directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and also stars in the film alongside Sylvie Testud and Philippe Torreton. Geoff Zanelli is the composer of the fantasy drama The Odd Life of Timothy Green. The film is written and directed by Peter Hedges (Pieces of April, Dan in Real Life) and stars Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton as a happily married couple who bury a box in their backyard, containing all of their wishes for an infant. Soon, a child is born, though Timothy Green is not all that he appears. Ron Livingston, Dianne Wiest, Odeya Rush, Rosemarie DeWitt and CJ Adams are co-starring in the film produced by Ahmet Zappa, Scott Sanders and James Whitaker. Sony Music will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the drama The Iron Lady. The album includes the original score by composer Thomas Newman, as well as a song from the musical The King and I, one track from the opera Norma and a classical piece by Johann Sebastian Bach. The soundtrack will be released on December 27, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out below.
