Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the romantic comedy That Awkward Moment written and directed by Tom Gormican and starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Imogen Poots, Mackenzie Davis and Jessica Lucas. David Torn (Lars and the Real Girl, The Wackness) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Crozet, Night Drive, Black Apples, Strange Talk and Lavender Diamond. Also opening wide following an Academy Awards-qualifying limited run in December is the drama Labor Day directed by Jason Reitman and starring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Gattlin Griffith, Clark Gregg and Tobey Maguire. Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Mean Girls, Election) who previously scored the Reitman’s features Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air and Young Adult has composed the film’s original music. Warner Bros. Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs featured in the drama. Paul Haslinger has revealed in a recent interview with
Columbia Records has announced a soundtrack album for the romantic comedy About Last Night. The album features the songs from the film by such artists as James Brown, Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Bobby Caldwell, Pink Martini and Y’akoto. Also included are two previously unreleased songs: A Million by John Legend and Luckiest Man by Mishon featuring Problem. Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for Denis Villeneuve’s indie thriller Enemy. The album features the film’s original music composed by Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Martha Marcy May Marlene). The soundtrack will be released on March 11, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on
Fil Eisler (aka iZler) has signed on to score the upcoming horror comedy Kitchen Sink. The movie is directed by Robbie Pickering and stars Vanessa Hudgens, Mackenzie Davis, Nicholas Braun, Ed Westwick, Josh Fadem, Joan Cusack, Keegan-Michael Key, Denis Leary, Patton Oswalt, Bob Odenkirk and Ian Roberts. The film follows a pair of teen who form an unlikely alliance with vampires and zombies in order to take on an alien arm. Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) has written the Black List-honored screenplay and Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man, Coldblooded) is producing the project.
La-La Land Records has announced a 4-CD soundtrack set for the Warner Bros. Television animated show Superman: The Animated Series. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Kristopher Carter, Harvey R. Cohen, Michael McCuistion and Lolita Ritmanis, as well as Shirley Walker who composed the series’ main titles theme. The 4-CD set is limited to 3000 copies and is now available to order on the
Patrick Neil Doyle is set to score the upcoming 3D fantasy adventure The Legend of Longwood. The film is directed by Lisa Mulcahy (The Clinic) and stars Lucy Morton, Lorcan Bonner, Lorcan Cranitch, Thekla Reuten, Fiona Glascott, Sean Mahon and Miriam Margolyes. The movie follows a 12-year-old girl who is destined to break a 300 year-old spell cast on a small Irish town and its inhabitants and must redeem a mysterious Black Knight and save a precious herd of horses from a ruthless woman with evil plans. The Dutch-Irish-German co-production is produced by Holland Harbour, Grand Pictures (Death of a Superhero) and Longwood Pictures.
On Tuesday night, the Academy’s Board of Governors voted to rescind the Original Song nomination for
