Steven Price has won his first Academy Award in the Best Original Score category for his music for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. The composer was also nominated for the first time. The other contenders in the category were John Williams (The Book Thief), Alexandre Desplat (Philomena), William Butler & Owen Pallett (Her) and Thomas Newman (Saving Mr. Banks). All six nominated composers were in attendance at the awards ceremony.
In the Best Original Song category, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez received the award for the song Let It Go from Disney’s Frozen.
John Paesano is composing the music for the upcoming sports drama When the Game Stands Tall. The film is directed by Thomas Carter and stars Jim Caviezel, Laura Dern, Michael Chiklis and Alexander Ludwig. The movie follows the high school team of De La Salle and its young coach Bob Ladouceur who turned the perennial loser into a legend by launching a streak of 138 straight victories. Scott Marshall Smith (The Score, Men of Honor) has written the screenplay based on the book of the same title by Neil Hayes. David Zelon (Soul Surfer, Into the Blue) is producing the Mandalay Pictures production.
