Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) will continue its support for the Sundance Institute and is collaborating with the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills to present two events exploring the role of music in film. On Sunday, March 30, at 2:00pm composer Peter Golub, director of the Sundance Institute Film Music Program, will host Composers Lab: LA On Stage featuring BMI composer Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek, Kingdom of Heaven) who will share insight into his creative techniques including a live demonstration of his work. Decca Records has released a soundtrack album for the drama A Long Way Down. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice, Anna Karenina). Also included are the songs from the film by such artists as Cake, Manu Chao, Alabama Shakes, Daughter and The Irrepressibles. Mac Quayle has been hired to score the upcoming indie drama Other People’s Children. The film marks the feature debut of commercial and documentary director Liz Hinlein and stars Chad Michael Murray, Diane Marshall-Green, Michael Mosley, Breanne Racano, Harrison Thomas and Sofia Vassilieva. The movie follows a filmmaker reeling from the death of her famous father who falls down the rabbit hole of a charismatic homeless man who becomes the subject of her latest documentary. Premiering on Thursday, March 27 is the new Fox comedy Surviving Jack created by Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumacker and starring Christopher Meloni, Connor Buckley, Rachael Harris, Claudia Lee, Kevin Hernandez and Tyler Foden. Noah Sorota Recording the Score for ‘Jinn’

Noah Sorota has composed the music for the supernatural thriller Jinn. The composer’s score was recorded with a full orchestra on the Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, CA. Sorota is best known as the composer of the TNT hit show Falling Skies, which is coming back for a fourth season this summer. Jinn is written and directed by Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad and stars Dominic Rains, Ray Park, William Atherton, Faran Tahir and Serinda Swan. The movie revolves around the jinn, mythological creatures created at the same time as men and the angels and follows an automotive designer and his wife who find themselves threatened by the supernatural forces. Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the thriller Crave. The album features the film’s original music composed by Justin Burnett (Getaway, Dungeons & Dragons, Java Heat). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 1, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Crave is directed by Charles de Lauzirika and stars Josh Lawson, Ron Perlman, Edward Furlong and Emma Lung. The movie follows a downtrodden photographer, haunted by the urban violence and decay around him, who retreats into an inner world of dark fantasies. Robin Coudert is composing the score for the upcoming crime drama Every Secret Thing. The film marks the narrative feature directorial debut of documentary filmmaker Amy Berg (Deliver Us from Evil, West of Memphis) and stars Diane Lane, Elizabeth Banks, Dakota Fanning, Danielle Macdonald, Nate Parker and Common. The movie is based on Laura Lippman’s 2004 mystery novel of the same title and follows two 11-year-old girls who are convicted of murdering a baby and incarcerated until they turn 18 when the police turn their attention to the duo as children start to go missing. The details of the soundtrack album for the super hero sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer and The Magnificent Six, which features Pharrell Williams, Johnny Marr (of The Smiths, Modest Mouse), Michael Einziger (of Incubus), Junkie XL, Andrew Kawczynski and Steve Mazzaro. Also included is the original song It’s On Again by Alicia Keys feat. Kendrick Lamar, as well as songs by Pharrell Williams, Liz, Phosphorescent and The Neighbourhood. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on April 22, 2014 by Columbia Records and Madison Gate Records. To pre-order the deluxe 2-CD edition, visit Amazon. Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the film adaptation of the young adult novel Divergent directed by Neil Burger and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Aaron Eckhart, Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ray Stevenson, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack for the film featuring the film’s songs, including tracks by by Ellie Goulding, Zedd, Pia Mia feat. Chance The Rapper. M83, Snow Patrol and Skrillex. (click here for the full album details). Junkie XL (300: Rise of an Empire) has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack featuring the composer’s music is now available digitally and will be released on CD on April 15. Check out our previous article for the full album details.
Also opening wide is Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted directed by James Bobin and starring the Muppets characters, alongside Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and Tina Fey. Bret McKenzie has written the film’s original songs and Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover) who also scored the 2011 Muppets feature has composed the film’s score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the film’s cast, as well as a suite from Beck’s score. Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the thriller Something Wicked. The album features the film’s original music composed by Kyle Newmaster (Kinect Star Wars, Blood Shot). The soundtrack will be released digitally and on Amazon Disc on Demand on April 1, 2014. Audio clips are embedded below. Something Wicked is directed by Darin Scott and stars the late actress Brittany Murphy in her final role. Shantel VanSanten, John Robinson and Julian Morris are co-starring. The movie is set in a mid-size American community in the Pacific Northwest and follows a young couple embarking upon their wedding plans, when gruesome secrets from their past collide with sinister forces of the present.
