The film is written and directed by Michael Larnell and stars Chanté Adams, Mahershala Ali, Nia Long, Elvis Nolasco, Kevin Phillips and Shenell Edmonds. The movie is set in the 1980s and tells the story of a 14-year-old rap prodigy from New York City’s Queensbridge Projects named Lolita Shante Gooden, who would go onto become hip hop legend Roxanne Shanté. The film is written and directed by Danny Strong (RecountLee Daniels’ The ButlerEmpire) and stars Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Spacey, Sarah Paulson, Zoey Deutch, Hope Davis and Victor Garber. The movie centers on the life and mind of reclusive author J.D. Salinger and goes from the bloody front lines of World War II to his early rejections and the PTSD-fueled writer’s block that led to his iconic novel, The Catcher in the Rye. Strong is also producing the project with Bruce Cohen (Silver Linings Playbook, American Beauty), Jason Shuman (The Messengers, Darkness Falls), as well as Molly Smith, Thad Luckinbill & Trent Luckinbill (Sicario, Demolition). lin-manuel-mirandaLin-Manuel Miranda has composed original songs for the upcoming animated feature Vivo. The film will be directed by Kirk De Micco (The Croods, Space Chimps) and is being written by Quiara Alegría Hudes, Miranda’s collaborator on the stage musical In The Heights. The movie, which is supposed to feature 11 new songs, tells the tale of an adventurous capuchin monkey with a passion for music that makes a treacherous passage from Havana to Miami to fulfill his destiny. The 3-CD set features the score from the original 1976 sports comedy directed by Michael Ritchie and starring Walter Matthau & Tatum O’Neal composed by Academy Award nominee Jerry Fielding (The Wild Bunch, Escape from Alcatraz, The Gambler), the music from the 1977 sequel The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training composed by Craig Safan (The Last Starfighter, Cheers) and the score for 1978’s The Bad News Bears Go to Japan composed by Paul Chihara (China Beach, Death Race 2000). The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Samuel Sim (AwakeHome FiresCombat Hospital). Also included are two original songs written for the show by Jamie Cullum, as well as track by singer Beverley Knight who has a special guest appearance in the series where she performs at the Café De Paris. fil-eislerFil Eisler has been hired to score the upcoming comedy To the Bone. The film marks the feature directorial debut of writer Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire SlayerFright NightI Am Number Four) and stars Lily Collins, Keanu Reeves, Carrie Preston, Lili Taylor, Alex Sharp and Liana Liberato. The movie follows a 20-year old woman who is battling her severe anorexia and enters a group recovery home. Noxon also wrote the screenplay inspired by her own experiences with anorexia. Julie Lynn (Albert Nobbs, Mother and Child, Last Days in the Desert) and Bonnie Curtis (Minority Report, A.I. Academy Announces 91 Original Songs in Oscar Race

oscarsThe Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced the short list of 91 songs that are in contention for nominations in the Original Song category for the 89th Academy Awards.During the nominations process, all voting members of the Music Branch will receive a Reminder List of works submitted in the category and a compilation of the song clips.  Members will be asked to watch the clips and then vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements in the category.  The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award. A maximum of two songs may be nominated from any one film. The nominations will be announced on January 24, 2017. Read the rest of this entry »
