hairspray-livePremiering on Wednesday, December 7, is the NBC television event Hairspray LIVE! based on the Broadway musical and starring Maddie Baillio, Dove Cameron, Kristin Chenoweth, Harvey Fierstein, Ariana Grande, Garrett Clayton, Derek Hough, Jennifer Hudson, Martin Short, Ephraim Sykes and Shahadi Wright Joseph. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the  special’s song written by Marc Shaiman (A Few Good Men, The Bucket List) and Scott Wittman (Smash, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and performed by the cast. shut-eye shut-eyeAlso premiering on Wednesday is the new Hulu original series Shut Eye created by Les Bohem and starring Jeffrey Donovan, KaDee Strickland, Isabella Rosselini, David Zayas, Susan Misner and Emmanuelle Chriqui. The show’s original music is composed by Ben Decter (CSI: CyberLethal WeaponLuciferHostages). The album features the film’s original music composed by Rob Simonsen (Nerve(500) Days of SummerThe Spectacular NowThe Way Way BackBurnt). Also included are the songs from the movie by James Brown, The Capitols, Duck Sauce, Alexander and Arthur Lee. The soundtrack will be released overseas on December 5, 2016. ‘Westworld’ Season 1 Soundtrack Details

westworldWaterTower Music will release a full soundtrack album for the HBO original series Westworld. The album features the music from the show’s first season composed by Ramin Djawadi (Game of ThronesPacific RimIron ManClash of the TitansWarcraft). The soundtrack, which has a run time of 109 minutes, will be released digitally this coming Monday, December 5 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. The label has previously released an EP featuring five selections from the soundtrack. Westworld is created by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 feature and stars Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton, Tessa Thompson, and Sidse Babett Knudsen.  Read the rest of this entry »

Two movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

incarnateOpening in most theaters is the supernatural thriller Incarnate directed by Brad Peyton and starring Aaron Eckhart, Carice van Houten, Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Mazouz. The film’s original music is composed by Andrew Lockington (San AndreasJourney to the Center of the EarthJourney 2: The Mysterious Island). No soundtrack album has been announced. The Jason Blum-produced movie revolves around an unconventional exorcist who taps into the subconscious of a nine-year old boy who is possessed by a powerful, ancient demon. The thriller is being released by High Top Releasing/BH Tilt.

believeAlso opening wide is the faith-based drama Believe written and directed by Billy Dickson and starring Ryan O’Quinn, Shawnee Smith, Danielle Nicolet, Kevin Sizemore, David DeLuise and Isaac Ryan Brown. Michael Reola (Melissa & Joey) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack album. The movie follows a small-town business owner who tries to save the local Christmas pageant against all odds. The drama is being distributed by Freestyle Releasing. hidden-figures20th Century Fox has published a video featurette on the music for Theodore Melfi’s drama Hidden Figures. The 3-minute piece features interviews with composers Hans ZimmerPharrell Williams and Benjamin Wallfisch, as well as jazz legend and pianist Herbie Hancock who is featured as a soloist on the score. Also shown is footage from a live performance of Williams’ original songs at the Toronto Film Festival and video from the scoring sessions at the Alfred Newman Scoring Stage on the Fox lot. ‘Fences’ Soundtrack Details

The album features the film’s original music composed by Marcelo Zarvos (The Good ShepherdThe AffairRay DonovanThe WordsRemember Me). Also included are the songs featured in the movie by Reverend James Cleveland, Dinah Washington and Little Jimmy Scott. The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 16, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A physical version will come out on January 13, 2017. Click here to order the CD. Fences starring Washington, Viola Davis, Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson and Saniyya Sydney is based on August Wilson’s play of the same title and tells the story of a one-time promising baseball player, now working as a Pittsburgh garbage collector, and the complicated relationships with his wife, son and friends. 12-monkeysBryce Jacobs has taken over scoring duties on the Syfy original series 12 Monkeys. The show is developed by Terry Matalas & Travis Fickett based on Terry Gilliam’s 1995 movie of the same title and stars Aaron Standford, Amanda Schull, Kirk Acevedo, Todd Stashwick, Emily Hampshire, Barbara Sukowa and Noah Bean. The drama follows a time traveler from the future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. ‘Magnus’ Soundtrack Released

magnusMovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album for the documentary Magnus. The album features the film’s original music composed by Uno Helmersson (The Keeper of Lost CausesThe BridgeArmadillo). Also included is the song Secret Room performed by Katharina Nuttall. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Magnus is directed by Benjamin Ree and centers on Magnus Carlsen, called the Mozart of chess, who became world champion in 2013 at the age of 22.. WaterTower Music will release the film’s original soundtrack album in a couple of weeks, which also features the movie’s original score composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The MartianKingdom of HeavenThe Chronicles of NarniaShrek). Live by Night starring Affleck, Elle Fanning, Chris Messina, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana and Chris Cooper will be released in select theaters on December 25 and nationwide on January 13, 2017 by Warner Bros. The song, entitled Keep Your Eyes on Me, is also performed by the country music stars and is featured in the film’s first trailer, which premiered today and is embedded after the jump. The track will also be included on the official soundtrack album, alongside songs by Lady Antebellum, Hillsong United, Dierks Bentley, NEEDTOBREATHE and Brett Eldredge. The Shack is directed by Stuart Hazeldine and stars Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, Radha Mitchell, Graham Greene and Aviv Alush.
