La-La Land Records has announced a soundtrack album for last year’s tenth season of The X-Files. The album features the music from the Fox event series composed by Emmy Award winner Mark Snow (Smallville, Millennium) who scored all episodes of the show. The 2-CD set will be released next Tuesday, April 25 and will be available to order on the label’s official website. The X-Files is created by Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi. The revival mini-series, which also featured such guest stars as Joel McHale, Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose, premiered last year on Fox and is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD. Jeff Russo has been tapped to score the upcoming Starz original series Counterpart. The show is created by Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) and stars J.K. Simmons, Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd, Stephen Rea, Richard Schiff and Sarah Bolger. The spy thriller follows a lowly cog in a bureaucratic agency, who discovers that the agency he works for is really guarding a crossing into a parallel dimension. Branford Marsalis has recently composed the original score for the new HBO original movie The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The film is directed by George C. Wolfe (Nights in Rodanthe, Lackawanna Blues) and stars Oprah Winfrey, Rose Byrne, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Rocky Carroll, Courtney B. Vance, Reg E. Cathey, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Leslie Uggams. Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album for the Disney Channel original movie Descendants 2. The album features the songs from the movie performed by the film’s cast, including Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, China Anne McClain, Thomas Doherty, Dylan Playfair and Mitchell Hope. Also included are three songs from the animated short-form series Descendants: Wicked World. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on July 21, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. In addition to the nationwide expansion of Gifted, the only nationwide release this week is the action sequel The Fate of the Furious directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. Opening in around 350 theaters is the animated feature Spark: A Space Tail written and directed by Aaron Woodley and featuring the voices of Jace Norman, Jessica Biel, Susan Sarandon, Patrick Stewart and Hilary Swank. Robert Duncan (Castle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Timeless, The Unit, Terriers) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album is in the works and will be announced soon.
