Ludwig Göransson was honored with his second Critics Choice Award in the Best Score category for his music for Ryan Coogler’s Sinners at tonight’s 31st Critics Choice Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. He previously received the award for his music from Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in 2024. The other composers nominated in the category were Hans Zimmer (F1), Alexandre Desplat (Frankenstein), Max Richter (Hamnet), Daniel Lopatin (Marty Supreme) and Jonny Greenwood (One Battle After Another). Premiering tonight before moving to its regular Tuesday night slot on January 6 is the Fox comedy drama Best Medicine developed by Liz Tuccillo based on ITV’s Doc Martin and starring Josh Charles, Annie Potts, Abigail Spencer, Cree and Josh Segarra. The show’s original music is composed by Jeff Cardoni (Silicon Valley, The Kominsky Method, Ransom Canyon, Heels, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates,White House Plumbers, CSI: Miami, Ghosts, The FranchiseJust Friends). Premiering on Thursday, January 8, is the British Paramount+ original series Girl Taken developed by David Turpin, Suzanne Cowie & Nessah Muthy based on the novel Baby Doll by Hollie Overton and starring Alfie Allen, Jill Halfpenny, Tallulah Evans and Delphi Evans. Andrew Simon McAllister (Nowhere Special, Old Guy, The Devil’s DoorwayAgatha and the Truth of Murder, The Secret, 37 Days) has composed the show’s original music. The 6-part psychological thriller, which follows two twin sisters whose lives are shattered when one of them is abducted from their quiet rural English town by a beloved local teacher and – after escaping following years of abuse – discovers that freedom brings its own challenges, will be available to stream exclusively on Paramount+. The show is developed by Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch, Doctor Who) based on Christie’s novel The Seven Dials Mystery and stars Mia McKenna-Bruce, Edward Bluemel, Martin Freeman, Helena Bonham Carter, Iain Glen, Nyasha Hatendi, Hughie O’Donnell, Nabhaan Rizwan, Alex Macqueen and Corey Mylchreest. Joris de Man (Horizon Zero Dawn, Lockwood & Co., Gotham Knights, Killzone) has released a soundtrack album for the British stop-motion animated feature Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires. The album features the composer’s original music from the film and is now available to stream/download on Amazon and most other major digital music services. Also listen to de Man’s main titles track after the jump. Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires is written and directed by Mike Mort and features the voices of Mort himself, Jennifer Saunders, Paul Whitehouse, Johnnie Fiori, Dan Russell and Samantha Coughlan. The album features selections of the original score from the second part of the show’s first season (Episode of Heartslabyul) composed by Takumi Ozawa (Aria the Scarlet Ammo, Okamikakushi). The movie revolves around a young couple who witness a horrific accident that leaves the driver dead and are soon being pursued by a demonic stalker who’s impossible to outrun. Planets in Alignment will release a soundtrack album for the British mystery thriller Doctor Plague. The album features the film’s original music composed by Chris Hurst & Robert Geoffrey Hughes (Nemesis, Renegades, We Still Steal the Old WayPentagram). The soundtrack will be released digitally next Friday, January 9 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Doctor Plague is directed by Ben Fortune and stars Martin Kemp, Peter Woodward, David Yip, Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott, Wendy Glenn, Gary Webster and Daisy Beaumont. The movie produced by Shogun Films follows a detective on the trail of a masked serial killer cutting a swathe through East London, echoing the Jack the Ripper murders of 1888 and the Plague Doctors of old.
