Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the Australian comedy Below. The album features the film’s original music composed by Ned Beckley (White Rabbit Project) & Josh Hogan. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, July 3 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Below is directed by Maziar Lahooti and stars Ryan Corr, Anthony LaPaglia, Phoenix Raei, Alison Whyte, Morgana O’Reilly and Zenia Star. James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, The Sixth Sense, King Kong, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Signs, The Fugitive) has been tapped to score the upcoming drama News of the World. The film is directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy/Ultimatum, United 93, Captain Phillips) and stars Tom Hanks, Helena Zengel, Michael Covino, Fred Hechinger and Thomas Francis Murphy. The movie based on the best-selling 2016 novel of the same title by Paulette Jiles is set in the days following the Civil War and centers on the the unlikely friendship between Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, an early precursor to today’s newscasters, and a 10-year-old girl he is tasked with bringing to her relatives. Zodiak Music has released soundtrack album for the Irish mini-series Resistance. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Vince Pope (No Offence, Tigers Are Not Afraid, Black Mirror: Be Right Back, Misfits). The modern take on the classic series is rooted in the experiences of ordinary people who have lived the unthinkable – from the trauma of a loved one’s unexplained disappearance or horrific death, to the shock of a bizarre paranormal encounter. The film marks the directorial debut of actress Halle Berry who also stars in the movie as Jackie Justice, a washed-up MMA wrestler who has to conquer her own demons, face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world and and deal with the return of her 6-year-old son. Manners McDade has released a soundtrack album for the documentary Scheme Birds. The album features the film’s original score composed by Charlie Jefferson. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Scheme Birds is directed by Ellinor Hallin & Ellen Fiske and tells the story of a teenage troublemaker from Motherwell, Scotland, as she is growing up in her world of violence and pigeons. The Swedish/UK co-production. The documentary premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where it won Best Documentary Feature and Best New Documentary Director, and is being released in the UK on VOD today. Johnny Mandel has passed away at 94. The Grammy Award-winning composer wrote numerous scores and songs for film and TV between the late 50s and early 90s and was also known for writing and arranging other popular songs. Among his best known film scoring credits are Robert Altman’s 1970 classic MASH (for which he also wrote the theme song Suicide Is Painless), Harold Ramis’ 1980 comedy Caddyshack, Hal Ashby’s comedy dramas Being There and The Last Detail, Disney’s original Freaky Friday and Escape to Witch Mountain movies, Sidney Lumet’s The Verdict and Death Trap, John Boorman’s 1967 thriller Point Blank, Michael Apted’s 1979 thriller Agatha and Jack Smight’s 1966 crime drama Harper. He won the Academy Award for co-writing the original song The Shadow of Your Smile from 1965’s The Sandpiper with Paul Francis Webster and received another Oscar nomination for the song A Time for Love from 1966’s An American Dream (also featuring lyrics by Webster).
