Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, Bad Boys for Life, The Crown, Genius) is the new composer of the Epix original series Pennyworth. He is currently scoring the second season of the show developed by Bruno Heller based on DC characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger and starring Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth and Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, as well as Jason Flemyng, Emma Paetz, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson and Paloma Faith. They are joined by new series regulars James Purefoy, Edward Hogg, Jessye Romeo, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater, Simon Manyonda and Jessica de Gouw. The new season is set a year after the events of last season as England finds itself embroiled in a devastating civil war, with the powerful, neo-fascist Raven Union threatening to control the entire country. Opening in around 450 theaters and on VOD today is the drama Wild Mountain Thyme written and directed by John Patrick Shanley and starring Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm, Christopher Walken and Dearbhla Molloy. The film’s original music is composed by Amelia Warner (Mary Shelley, Mum’s List). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as an original song performed by Sinéad O’Connor & more. ABKCO Records has announced the full details of the new soundtrack album for Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World starring Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh and Jason Schwartzman. The Seven Evil Exes Edition features both the songs and the original score by Nigel Godrich from the movie. The album, which is being released coinciding with the film’s 10th Anniversary, features twelve previously unreleased tracks, including more performances by Sex Bob-Omb and demos from Beck, as well as Black Sheep by Metric and sung by actress Brie Larson. The 4-Picture Disc LP Collection, which also features notes by both Wright and Godrich, a new double-sided film poster and a coloring page with artwork by Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, will be released on March 26, 2021 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The full details of the jazz album for Pixar’s animated movie Soul have been announced. The album features the original jazz compositions and arrangements from and inspired by the film by Grammy Award nominee Jon Batiste. Also included is his cover of the Curtis Mayfield classic It’s All Right. The soundtrack will be released on vinyl on December 18 (visit Amazon to pre-order). A digital version featuring both the jazz tracks and Trent Reznor’s & Atticus Ross score, which is being released separately on vinyl, will be coming out on the same day. Soul is directed by Pete Docter and stars Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Ahmir Questlove Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Daveed Diggs. Walt Disney Records has announced the full details of the score album for the Pixar animated feature Soul. The album features the film’s original score composed by Academy Award winners Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Watchmen, Mank, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). The soundtrack will be released on vinyl next Friday, December 18 and is now available to pre-order here. A digital version, which features both the score and Jon Batiste’s jazz compositions and arrangements, which is also being released separately as a vinyl edition, will be coming out on the same day. Disney announced today that Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams and Nicholas Britell will provide the music for studios’ upcoming The Lion King prequel. The film will be directed by Barry Jenkins and will use the same photo-realistic technology from last year’s remake directed by Jon Favreau. No casting announcements have been made yet.
