Robin Guthrie is currently scoring the upcoming indie drama White Bird in a Blizzard. The film is written and directed by Gregg Araki (The Doom Generation, Smiley Face) and stars Shailene Woodley, Gabourey Sidibe, Eva Green, Angela Bassett, Christopher Meloni and Shiloh Fernandez. The movie is based on a novel by Laura Kasischke (The Life Before Her Eyes) and follows a troubles young woman whose life spins out of control when her mother mysteriously disappears. Araki is also producing the project with Pascal Caucheteux (A Prophet, Rust and Bone) and Sebastien Lemercier (The Purge, Four Lovers) of Why Not Productions. Guthrie has previously co-scored Araki’s Mysterious Skin and Kaboom.

Kevin Haskins is composing the score for the upcoming crime drama Electric Slide. The film is written and directed by Tristan Patterson and stars Jim Sturgess, Isabel Lucas, Patricia Arquette, Chloë Sevigny, and Christopher Lambert. The movie is based on a true story set in the 1980s and follows the owner of a posh Los Angeles furniture store who robbed a bank to impress his new girlfriend and became a serial robber known as “The Gentleman Bandit”. Hans C. Ritter (Sound of My Voice), Christine Vachon (Boys Don’t Cry, Far from Heaven, Kill Your Darlings) & Kirk D’Amico (Eulogy) are producing the Myriad Pictures production. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers series, G.I. Joe) is among the executive producers of the project.
Alberto Iglesias Scoring ‘The Two Faces of January’
Alberto Iglesias is scoring the upcoming drama The Two Faces of January. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Hossein Amini (Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman, Four Feathers) and stars Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst and Oscar Isaac. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Strangers on a Train) and follows a con artist, his wife and a stranger who try to flee a foreign country after one of them is caught up in the murder of a police officer. Tom Sternberg (Lost Highway, The Talented Mr. Ripley) is producing the Studiocanal and Working Title production with Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Les Miserables, Love Actually) and Robyn Slovo.
Theodore Shapiro to Score ‘Infinitely Polar Bear’
Theodore Shapiro has been hired to score the upcoming comedy drama Infinitely Polar Bear. The film is written and directed by Maya Forbes (screenwriter of Monsters vs Aliens and The Rocker) and stars Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana. The movie is set in 1978 and follows a manic depressive father who tries to win back his wife by taking responsibility for their two free spirited daughters. Wally Wolodarsky (The Kennedys), Benji Kohn, Austin Stark & Bingo Gubelmann (Detachment, Happythankyounomoreplease), Sam Bisbee & Galt Niederhoffer (Robot & Frank) are producing the Paper Street Films and Park Pictures production. JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk (Lost, Star Trek) are executive producing the project for Bad Robot.
Fernando Velazquez to Score Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Crimson Peak’
Fernando Velazquez is set to score Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming gothic horror thriller Crimson Peak. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Tom Hiddleston. No plot details have been revealed yet. Del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) and Lucinda Coxon (Wild Target, The Heart of Me) are co-writing the screenplay based on an original script written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins (Mimic, The Sugarland Express, Batteries Not Included). Legendary Pictures is producing and financing the project and Universal Pictures will have the option to come on board as a finance partner at a later date. Velazquez has previously scored the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror thriller Mama.
Alan Silvestri to Score ‘Run All Night’
Alan Silvestri has been tapped to score the upcoming action thriller Run All Night. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and stars Liam Neeson, Joel Kinnaman, Ed Harris, Common and Natalie Martinez. The movie follows an aging hitman who is forced to take on his brutal former boss to protect his estranged son and his family. Brad Inglesby (Out of the Furnace) has written the screenplay and Roy Lee (The Strangers, The Lake House, Oldboy) is producing the Vertigo Entertainment and with Brooklyn Weaver. Three of Collet-Serra’s previous features, including Unknown, Orphan and House of Wax, as well as the upcoming Non-Stop were scored by John Ottman.
Rolfe Kent to Score ‘Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters’
Rolfe Kent has signed on to score the upcoming fantasy adventure Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. The film based on the best-selling young adult novel series by Richelle Mead is directed by Mark Waters (The Spiderwick Chronicles) and stars Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry as the lead characters Rose and Lissa. Danila Kozlovski, Olga Kurylenko, Sarah Hyland, Gabriel Byrne and Joely Richardson are co-starring. The movie follows a teen who has a mental and spiritual bond with her vampire best friend and attends a special school for vampires who are attempting to keep some of their humanity while other of their species are becoming more wild.
Raphael Saadiq Teams Up With Laura Karpman for ‘Black Nativity’ Score
Raphael Saadiq and Laura Karpman are composing the score for the musical drama Black Nativity. The movie is directed by Kasi Lemmons and stars Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Tyrese Gibson, Jacob Latimore, Nasir Jones (aka Nas), Mary J. Blige and Luke James. The film is based on the gospel musical by Langston Hughes, which premiered on Broadway in 1961 and follows a street-wise teen from Baltimore who is sent to New York City by his single mother to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives. Bill Horberg (The Talented Mr. Ripley) is producing the Maven Pictures production with Celine Rattray & Daniela Taplin Lundberg (The Kids Are All Right) and Galt Niederhoffer (Robot & Frank).
Marcus Miller Scoring ‘About Last Night’ Remake
Marcus Miller is scoring the upcoming romantic comedy drama About Last Night. The film is directed by Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine, Accepted) and stars Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Michael Ealy, Joy Bryant, Adam Rodriguez, Christopher McDonald and Paula Patton. The movie is a remake of Edward Zwick’s 1986 film of the same title starring Rob Lowe & Demi Moore and featuring music by Miles Goodman. The dramedy is also based on David Mamet’s play Sexual Perversity in Chicago and follows a man and woman who enter into a relationship, but their friends get in the way.
Joseph Trapanese, Fajar Yuskemal & Aria Prayogi to Score ‘The Raid 2’
Director Gareth Evans has announced on Twitter that Joseph Trapanese, Fajar Yuskemal and Aria Prayogi will be composing the score for the upcoming action sequel The Raid 2. Iko Uwais will reprise his role as police officer Rama from 2011’s The Raid: Redemption. The film takes place right after the first film ends and follows Rama as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force. Evans has also written the screenplay and Ario Sagantoro is producing the PT Merantau Films and XYZ Films production with Nate Bolotin, Nick Spicer, Aram Tertzakian and Todd Brown.
