Tyler Bates and Joel Richard have composed the music for the upcoming action thriller John Wick. The film marks the directorial debut of stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski & David Leitch and stars Keanu Reeves, Bridget Moynahan, Willem Dafoe, Jason Isaacs, Adrianne Palicki, Alfie Allen, Dean Winters and Michael Nyqvist. The movie follows an ex-hitman who is pursued by an old friend who was contracted by a crime boss to kill him. Derek Kolstad has written the screenplay. Basil Iwanyk (The Town, Clash of the Titans) is producing the project for Thunder Road Pictures, alongside Mike Witherill (Frontera) for MJW Films. The thriller also features songs that Bates wrote with Marilyn Manson and Ciscandra Nostalghia.

Andrew Hewitt to Score William Monahan’s ‘Mojave’
Andrew Hewitt has signed on to score the upcoming thriller Mojave. The film is written and directed by William Monahan (London Boulevard, screenwriter of The Departed & Kingdom of Heaven) and stars Garrett Hedlund, Oscar Isaac, Mark Wahlberg, Louise Bourgoin, Walton Goggins and Fran Kranz. The movie follows a near-suicidal artist who escapes into the desert to take an existential crisis head-on, only to encounter a doppelganger-like antagonist in the form of a brilliant, homicidal drifter. Monahan is also producing the project with William Green (Ali G Inda House) of Atlas Independent.
Alberto Iglesias to Score Ridley Scott’s ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’
Alberto Iglesias has been hired to score the upcoming biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings. The film is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Christian Bale, Aaron Paul, Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver and John Turturro, Ben Kingsley, Indira Varma, Ben Mendelsohn and Maria Valverde. The movie is based on the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt as led by Moses and related in the Old Testament Book of Exodus. Steve Zaillian (Schindler’s List, Moneyball, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) has written the screenplay based on a screen story by Bill Collage & Adam Cooper (Accepted). Scott is also producing the project with Peter Chernin (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Oblivion, The Heat), Jenno Topping, Michael Schaefer and Mark Huffam.
Mateo Messina Scoring ‘Barely Lethal’
Mateo Messina is currently scoring the upcoming action comedy Barely Lethal. The film is directed by Kyle Newman (Fanboys) and stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Alba, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophie Turner, Gabriel Basso, Dan Fogler, Dove Cameron, Thomas Mann and Jaime King. The movie follows a young international assassin who yearns for a “normal” adolescence, prompting her to fake her own death and enroll in a suburban high school. John D’Arco has written the screenplay. Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand, John Cheng, Sukee Chew (Jesus Henry Christ), Vanessa Coifman (Fireflies in the Garden, A Late Quartet) and Ted Hartley (Mighty Joe Young, Are We Done Yet?) are producing the RKO Pictures, Main Street Films, Hopscotch Pictures and RatPac Entertainment production.
John Dragonetti to Score ‘Scout’
John Dragonetti has been tapped to score the upcoming indie coming-of-age comedy drama Scout. The film is written and directed by Laurie Weltz (Wresting with Alligators) and stars India Ennenga, Nikki Reed, Danny Glover, Ellen Burstyn, James Frecheville, Onata Aprile and Shelly Hennig. The movie follows a rebellious young girl who convinces a suicidal young man to go on a road trip with her across Texas to track down her little sister, who’s been taken by their estranged carnie father. Beverley A. Gordon, Nic Emiliani and Dwjuan Fox are producing the project. Scout is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2015.
Ben Salisbury & Portishead’s Geoff Barrow Scoring Alex Garland’s ‘Ex Machina’
Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow are composing the music for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. The film is written and directed by Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later…, Sunshine, Dredd) and stars Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander. Andrew Macdonald (Trainspotting, The Beach) is producing the DNA Films production with Allon Reich (Never Let Me Go, 28 Weeks Later). Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network, Captain Phillips) and Eli Bush serve as executive producers on the project, alongside Tessa Ross. Salisbury’s previous scoring credits include the Beyonce documentary Life is But a Dream.
Dario Marianelli to Score ‘Everest’
Dario Marianelli has been hired to score the upcoming adventure drama Everest. The film is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband, 2 Guns) and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, Keira Knightley, Robin Wright, Sam Worthington, Emily Watson, Clive Standen, Martin Henderson, Thomas Wright, Michael Kelly and John Hawkes. The movie is based on the 1996 disaster on Everest that left eight climbers dead and follows the two different expeditions that challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Mark Medoff (Children of a Lesser God) and Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) have written the screenplay.
Nick Cave & Warren Ellis Scoring ‘Far from Men’
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are composing the music for the upcoming French drama Far from Men (Loin des hommes). The film is written and directed by David Oelhoffen and stars Viggo Mortensen and Reda Kateb. The movie is inspired by the short story The Host from French-Algerian philosopher Albert Camus’ book Exile and the Kingdom and follows a French teacher in a small Algerian village in 1957 during Algeria’s war of independence from France. Marc du Pontavice & Matthew Gledhill (War of the Buttons) are producing the project for One World Films. Cave & Ellis have previously scored such films as The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Proposition, Lawless and West of Memphis.
Aaron Zigman to Score ‘The Best of Me’
Aaron Zigman has signed on to score the upcoming romantic drama The Best of Me. The film is directed by Michael Hoffman and stars James Marsden, Michelle Monaghan, Luke Bracey, Liana Liberato, Sebastian Arcelus and Gerald McRaney. The movie is based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks and follows a pair of former high school sweethearts who reunite after many years when they both return to their small North Carolina hometown. Hoffman has also written the screenplay with J. Mills Goodloe (Pride) and Will Fetters (The Lucky One, Remember Me). Sparks is also producing the project with Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter, Dear John, Limitless), Theresa Park, Denise DiNovi (Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Crazy, Stupid, Love) and Alison Greenspan (Monte Carlo, Ramona and Beezus). Zigman has previously scored the Sparks adaptation The Notebook.
John Debney to Score Tom McCarthy’s ‘The Cobbler’
John Debney has been tapped to score the upcoming indie drama The Cobbler. The film is written and directed by Tom McCarthy and stars Adam Sandler, Dan Stevens, Dustin Hoffman, Steve Buscemi, Melonie Diaz, Ellen Barkin and Method Man. The movie follows a fourth generation shoemaker who finds a magical sewing machine in the basement of his father that enables him to experience life as other people when he wears their shoes. McCarthy is also producing the project with Mary Jane Skalski (The Visitor, Mysterious Skin) and Voltage Pictures’ Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker, The Company You Keep). The actor/writer/director has previously collaborated with composers Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (The Visitor), Stephen Trask (The Station Agent) and Lyle Workman (Win Win) on his previous directorial efforts.
