Heitor Pereira is composing the music for the upcoming crime thriller The Jesuit. The film is directed by Alfonso Pineda Ulloa and stars Jose Maria Yazpik, Tim Roth, Brian Cox, Tommy Flanagan, Neal McDonough, Shannyn Sossamon and Paz Vega. The movie follows an ex-convict who is forced to take matters into his own hands after his wife is killed and his son is kidnapped. Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Affliction) has written the screenplay and also serves as an executive producer. Alex Garcia (Casa de mi Padre, Ceremony), Santiago Garcia Galvan (Under the Same Moon) and Jose Martinez Jr. are producing the BN Films production.

Alex Da Kid to Develop Movie Musical ‘Ziggy’
British music producer Alex Da Kid is developing the original contemporary music for the upcoming movie musical Ziggy. The film is directed by Diesel Schwarze who previously worked with Baz Luhrmann on Moulin Rouge! and Broadway’s La Boheme. The period movie is set to star Dane DeHaan and Rooney Mara and follows a hunchback escape artist who arrives in New York during the mass-culture boom of the late 1920s and falls in love with the fiance of a powerful media mogul. Lynette Howell and Jamie Patricof (The Place Beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine, Half Nelson) are producing the project for their Electric City Entertainment company. Da Kid has produced such hit songs as Eminem’s Love the Way You Lie, Rihanna’s Loud and Imagine Dragons’ Radioactive.
David Hirschfelder Scoring Russell Crowe’s ‘The Water Diviner’
David Hirschfelder has recently recorded his score for the upcoming historical drama The Water Diviner. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Russell Crowe who also stars in the film as an Australian farmer who – four years after Turkey’s Battle of Gallipoli during World War I – travels to Istanbul to discover the fate of his sons who are reported missing in action. Olga Kurylenko, Jai Courtney and Isabel Lucas are co-starring. Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios have written the screenplay. Andrew Mason (Dark City, Adore, I, Frankenstein) and Troy Lum are producing the project for Hopscotch Features, alongside Keith Rodger for Crowe’s Fear of God Films. James Packer and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand) are executive producing for RatPac Entertainment.
Jon Brion to Score Rupert Wyatt’s ‘The Gambler’
Jon Brion has been tapped to score the upcoming crime drama The Gambler. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Escapist) and stars Mark Wahlberg, Jessica Lange, Brie Larson, Michael K. Williams, John Goodman and Emory Cohen. The movie is a remake of the 1974 film of the same title written by James Toback and starring James Caan and follows a literature professor with a gambling problem whose vices cause his life to spiral out of control. William Monahan (The Departed, Kingdom of Heaven, Body of Lies) has written the screenplay. Irwin Winkler (Raging Bull, Rocky, Goodfellas), Robert Chartoff (Rocky, Ender’s Game), Stephen Levinson (Entourage, Contraband) and David Winkler (Rocky Balboa) are producing the project.
Geoff Zanelli to Score ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’
Geoff Zanelli is attached to score the upcoming fantasy adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film will be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki). Johnny Depp is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow. No other casting or plot details have been announced yet. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Rush Hour 2) has been hired to write the screenplay. Jerry Bruckheimer (The Rock, National Treasure, Beverly Hills Cop, Armageddon) returns as a producer. Zanelli has previously composed additional music for all four movies in the Pirates in the Caribbean series scored by Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt.
James Horner Scoring Jean-Jacques Annaud’s ‘Wolf Totem’
James Horner is currently scoring the upcoming adventure drama Wolf Totem. The project marks the fourth collaboration between the composer and director Jean-Jacques Annaud. They have previously worked together on the features The Name of the Rose, Enemy at the Gates and Black Gold. Wolf Totem starring Chinese actors Feng Shaofeng and Dou Xiao is based on the autobiographical novel by Jiang Rong and tells the story of a student who is sent from Beijing in China to the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia to teach shepherds and learns about the bond that they share with the wolves. Annaud has written the screenplay with John Collee (Happy Feet, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World). Bill Kong (Crouching Dragon, Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers) and Xavier Castano are producing the Chinese/French co-production.
Marcelo Zarvos Scoring Tod Williams’ ‘Cell’
Marcelo Zarvos is reuniting with director Tod Williams on the upcoming horror thriller Cell. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Stephen King and stars John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Isabelle Fuhrman and Stacy Keach. The film follows a New England artist who is struggling to reunite with his son after a mysterious signal broadcast over the global cell phone network turns humans into mindless vicious animals. Adam Alleca (The Last House on the Left) has written the screenplay. Michael Benaroya (Lawless, Margin Call), Brian Witten (Chernobyl Diaries), Richard Saperstein & Shana Kay (Devil’s Knot, Silent Night) are producing the Benaroya Pictures production. Zarvos has previously scored Williams’ 2004 drama The Door in the Floor.
Ilan Eshkeri Scoring ‘Still Alice’
Ilan Eshkeri has recently composed the music for the upcoming indie drama Still Alice. The film is written and directed by Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland (The Last of Robin Hood, Quinceanera) and stars Julianne Moore, Kristen Stewart, Alec Baldwin, Kate Bosworth and Hunter Parrish. The movie is based on a novel by Lisa Genova and follows a successful Columbia University professor who struggles to maintain her mind and self after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Lex Lutzus (Age of Heroes), James Brown and Pamela Koffler (One Hour Photo, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) are producing the project. Still Alice is set to premiere later this month at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Philippe Rombi to Score ‘Asterix: The Land of the Gods’
Philippe Rombi has been hired to score the upcoming 3D animated feature Asterix: The Land of the Gods (Astérix: Le domaine des dieux). The movie is directed by Alexandre Astier and Louis Clichy and features the voices of Roger Carel, Lorant Deutsch, Alain Chabat, Laurent Lafitte, Géraldine Nakache, Elie Semoun, Florence Foresti and Astier himself in the original French version. No word yet on the voice cast of the English language version. The film is based on the 7th Asterix book, entitled The Mansion of the Gods written by Rene Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo, and follows the exploits of a village of ancient Gauls as they resist Roman occupation. The SND, M6 Studio and Mikros Images production marks the first Asterix feature to be released in 3D.
Craig Armstrong Scoring Thomas Vinterberg’s ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’
Craig Armstrong has composed the original music for the upcoming drama Far from the Madding Crowd. The film is directed by Thomas Vinterberg (The Hunt, Dear Wendy, It’s All About Love) and stars Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge, and Juno Temple. The movie is based on the 1874 novel of the same title by Thomas Hardy and tells the story of an independent and headstrong woman who attracts three very different suitors: a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and a prosperous and mature bachelor. David Nicholls (One Day, Starter for 10, Mike Newell’s Great Expectations) has written the screenplay. Allon Reich (28 Weeks Later, Never Let Me Go) and Andrew Macdonald (Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later…) are producing the project for DNA Films.
