The film is written and directed by Sian Heder (Orange Is the New Black) and stars Ellen Page, Allison Janney, Tammy Blanchard, Evan Jonigkeit and Uzo Aduba. The movie follows a rootless young woman who takes a toddler from a wealthy, negligent mother and passes the baby off as her own in an effort to protect her. Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Mrs. Doubtfire) is producing the project with Heather Rae (Frozen River, Ass Backwards), Russell Levine and Todd Traina.

Tim Hecker is composing the music for the upcoming indie drama The Free World. The film is written and directed by Jason Lew (screenwriter of Gus Van Sant’s Restless) and stars Boyd Holbrook, Elisabeth Moss, Octavia Spencer, Sung Kang and Waleed Zuaiter. The movie follows a man truggling to adapt to life on the outside following his release from a brutal stretch in prison for crimes he didn’t commit and meets a mysterious woman with a violent past. Laura Rister (Lovelace, Margin Call) is producing the project.
Henry Jackman to Score Nate Parker’s ‘The Birth of a Nation’
Henry Jackman has been hired to score the upcoming drama The Birth of a Nation. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actor Nate Parker and stars himself, alongside Armie Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Jackie Earle Haley, Gabrielle Union and Mark Boone Jr. The movie tells the true story of Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher whose financially strained owner accepts an offer to use his preaching to subdue unruly slaves and devises a plan to lead his people to freedom.
Devendra Banhart to Score Jeff Baena’s ‘Joshy’
Singer/songwriter Devendra Banhart has been tapped to write the music for the upcoming indie comedy Joshy. The film is written and directed by Jeff Baena (Life After Beth, writer of I Heart Huckabees) and stars Thomas Middleditch, Adam Pally, Alex Ross Perry, Nick Kroll, Brett Gelman and Jenny Slate. The movie follows the title character who treats what would have been his bachelor party as an opportunity to reconnect with his friends. Liz Destro (Life of Crime, About Cherry) is producing the project for Destro Films, alongside Michael Zakin (Mozart in the Jungle, The Bling Ring) for American Zoetrope.
‘Belgica’ to Feature Music by Soulwax
The Belgian alternative rock/electronic music duo of Soulwax has composed the music for Felix van Groeningen’s upcoming drama Belgica. The marks the director’s follow-up feature to 2012’s Academy Award-nominated film The Broken Circle Breakdown and stars Stef Aerts, Tom Vermeir, Charlotte Vandermeersch and Hélène Devos. The movie follows two brothers who start a bar and get swept up in its success in the midst of Belgium’s nightlife scene. Van Groeningen has also written the screenplay with Arne Sierens. Dirk Impens is producing the project.
Jóhann Jóhannsson Scoring So Yong Kim’s ‘Lovesong’
Jóhann Jóhannsson is reuniting with director So Yong Kim on the upcoming drama Lovesong. The film stars Jena Malone, Riley Keough, Brooklyn Decker, Amy Seimetz, Ryan Eggold and Rosanna Arquette. The movie follows Sarah & Mindy, two best friends who embark on an impromptu road trip with Sarah’s young daughter in tow and see their friendship develop into a surprising romance – despite the fact that Mindy is about to get married. So Yong Kim has also written the screenplay with Bradley Rust Gray (The Exploding Girl, Jack and Diane) who is also producing the project with Alex Lipschultz, Johnny Mac and David Hansen.
Tegan and Sara’s Sara Quin to Score Clea DuVall’s ‘The Intervention’
Sara Quin, member of the pop duo Tegan and Sara, is making her film scoring debut on the upcoming indie comedy drama The Intervention. The film is written and directed by Clea DuVall and stars Melanie Lynskey, Cobie Smulders, Alia Shawkat, DuVall herself, Natasha Lyonne and Ben Schwartz. The movie takes place during a weekend getaway for four couples that takes a sharp turn when one of the couples discovers the entire trip was orchestrated to host an intervention on their marriage. David Bernon & Sam Slater (Results, Adult Beginners, Drinking Buddies) and Sev Ohanian are producing the project.
Jake Monaco Scoring ‘Kindergarten Cop 2’
Jake Monaco has recently composed the music for the upcoming comedy sequel Kindergarten Cop 2. The film is directed by Don Michael Paul (Half Past Dead) and stars Dolph Lundgren as an FBI agent who goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher to find a missing flash drive from the Federal Witness Protection Program. David H. Steinberg (American Pie 2, Slackers) has written the screenplay. Mike Elliott (The Devil’s Rejects, The Perfect Holiday) is producing the project from Universal Pictures’ 1440 Entertainment division.
James Lavino Scoring Todd Solondz’s ‘Wiener-Dog’
James Lavino has composed the music for the upcoming indie comedy Wiener-Dog. The film is written and directed by Todd Solondz (Happiness, Welcome to the Dollhouse) and stars Greta Gerwig, Kieran Culkin, Danny DeVito, Ellen Burstyn, Julie Delpy and Zosia Mamet. The movie tells several stories featuring people who find their life inspired or changed by one particular dachshund, who seems to be spreading comfort and joy. Megan Ellison (American Hustle, Foxcatcher, Her) is producing the project for Annapurna Pictures, alongside Christine Vachon (Carol, Boys Don’t Cry, One Hour Photo) for Killer Films.
Lesley Barber Scoring Kenneth Lonergan’s ‘Manchester by the Sea’
Lesley Barber is reteaming with director Kenneth Lonergan on the upcoming drama Manchester by the Sea. The film stars Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, Lucas Hedges and Kyle Chandler. The movie follows a man who is forced to return home to care for his 16-year-old nephew after brother passes away and is compelled to deal with a tragic past that separated him from his family and the community where he was born and raised. Lonergan has also written the screenplay. Matt Damon is producing the project with Lauren Beck and Chris Moore (American Pie series, Promised Land, Joy Ride).
