Christophe Beck has been tapped to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature Trolls. The film is directed by Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After, Sky High) & Walt Dohrn and features the voices of Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake. The movie is based on the Troll dolls – created by Danish woodcutter Thomas Dam in 1959 based on the legendary Scandinavian troll. Gina Shay (Shrek Forever After) is producing the movie. The project will mark Beck’s third full-length animated feature following Disney’s Frozen and Blue Sky’s The Peanuts Movie, which is currently playing in theaters.

Keegan DeWitt Scoring ‘Morris from America’
Keegan DeWitt is composing the music for the upcoming indie drama Morris from America. The film is written and directed by Chad Hartigan and stars Markees Christmas, Craig Robinson, Carla Juri, Lina Keller, Jakub Gierszal and Levin Henning. The movie follows a hip-hop-loving, 13-years old American who moves to Heidelberg, Germany, with his father, where he falls in love with a local girl and attempts to navigate the unique trials and tribulations of adolescence. Sara Murphy (Land Ho!), Adele Romanski (Black Rock, Bad Milo), Martin Heisler and Gabriele Simon are producing the project.
Archer Black’s Dustin Morgan to Score ‘Fear, Inc.’
Dustin Morgan, frontman of LA based orchestral rock band Archer Black, has been hired to score the upcoming black comedy thriller Fear, Inc. The film is directed by Vincent Masciale, written by Luke Barnett and stars Lucas Neff, Caitlin Stasey, Chris Marquette, Stephanie Drake and Mark Moses, as well as Eric Lange, Richard Riehle, Naomi Grossman, Ashlynn Yennie, David Ury and Patrick Renna. The movie follows a horror junkie and his friends who sign up with a company of degenerates who can be hired for a premium to bring your greatest fears to life.
Rob Simonsen to Score Zach Braff’s ‘Going in Style’
Rob Simonsen is reteaming with Zach Braff (Garden State, Scrubs) on the upcoming caper comedy Going in Style. The film is a remake of Martin Brest’s 1979 movie of the same title and stars Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Joey King, Matt Dillon and Ann-Margret. The movie marks Braff’s third feature directorial effort and follows three retired men who lose their pensions when the company they’ve worked for their entire lives is sold to a foreign corporation, which makes them set out to try to rob the very bank that’s withholding their money. Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent) has written the screenplay. Donald De Line (The Italian Job, Pain & Gain, Body of Lies) is producing the New Line Cinema production.
Alexandre Desplat to Score ‘The Secret Life of Pets’
Alexandre Desplat has signed on to score the upcoming animated feature The Secret Life of Pets. The film is directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, The Lorax) & Yarrow Cheney and features the voice talent of Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. The movie revolves around the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. Chris Meledandri (Despicable Me series, Minions) is producing the Illumination Entertainment production with Janet Healey. Brian Lynch (Minions, Hop, Puss in Boots) and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio (Despicable Me, Horton Hears a Who!) have written the screenplay.
Benjamin Wallfisch Scoring ‘Lights Out’
This week, Benjamin Wallfisch is recording his music for the upcoming horror thriller Lights Out at The Bridge Recording Studios in Glendale, CA. The film is directed by David Sandberg and stars Teresa Palmer, Gabriel Bateman and Alexander DiPersia. The movie is based on the director’s short film of the same title and follows a young boy and his estranged sister who are confronted by an evil entity that only appears when the lights are out. Eric Heisserer (Final Destination 5, The Thing) has written the screenplay and is also producing the New Line Cinema production with James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7, Insidious) and Lawrence Grey.
Jeff Cardoni to Score ‘Smitten!’
Jeff Cardoni has been hired to score the upcoming romantic comedy Smitten!. The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning screenwriter Barry Morrow (Rain Man) and stars Darren Criss, Madalina Ghenea and Angela Molina. The movie follows a young American fashion executive who gets kidnapped in Italy and is taken into the alpine mountains by three bumbling members of the mafia. Morrow has also written the screenplay and is producing the project with Julia Rask and David Nichols (Seven Years in Tibet, Caroline in the City).
Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans to Score Joshua Marston’s ‘Complete Unknown’
Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans have been tapped to score the upcoming drama Complete Unknown. The film is directed by Joshua Marston (Maria Full of Grace, The Forgiveness of Blood) and stars Rachel Weisz, Michael Shannon, Kathy Bates and Danny Glover. The movie marks the director’s first English-language feature and follows a woman introduced at a dinner party hosted by a man who increasingly believes he knows the guest by a different name and different biography. Marston has also written the screenplay with Julian Sheppard.
Stanley Clarke Scoring ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’
Stanley Clarke is currently scoring the upcoming comedy sequel Barbershop: The Next Cut. The film is directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins) and stars Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall, Anthony Anderson, Eve, Nicki Minaj, Common and JB Smoove. The third installment in the Barbershop series takes place 10 years after the last part and follows Eddie and his longtime crew whose once male-dominated sanctuary is now co-ed. Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and Tracy Oliver have written the screenplay.
Patrick Doyle to Score ‘Whisky Galore’
Patrick Doyle is set to compose the music for the upcoming comedy Whisky Galore. The film is directed by Gillies MacKinnon (A Simple Twist of Faith, Hideous Kinky, Behind the Lines) and stars Eddie Izzard, Gregor Fisher, John Sessions, Fenella Woolgar, Tim Piggott-Smith and Sean Biggerstaff. The movie is based on the novel by Compton MacKenzie and the 1949 film of the same title and centers around thereal-life 1941 shipwreck of the S.S. Politician, which ran aground with a cargo of 264,000 bottles of malt whisky. Peter McDougall has written the screenplay.
