In our fifth part of our fall television music series, we are taking a look at the new and returning shows on ABC:
The most successful new show of the season on the network is the fantasy drama Once Upon a Time created by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis (Lost) and starring Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Robert Carlyle, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Jamie Dornan and Jared Gilmore. Also new on the network is the period drama Pan Am created by Jack Orman and starring Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner, Jonah Lotan, Michael Mosley, Margot Robbie and Karine Vanasse. Another new show on ABC is the drama Revenge created by Mike Kelley and loosely based on Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo stars Emily VanCamp, Madeleine Stowe, Gabriel Mann, Henry Czerny, Connor Paolo, Ashley Madekwe and Nick Wechsler. The show’s score is written by recent World Soundtrack Award nominee iZLER (Natural Selection, Hamill). Among the new comedies on the network is the half-hour sitcom Last Man Standing created by Jack Burditt and starring Tim Allen, Nancy Travis, Alexandra Krosney, Molly Ephraim, Kaitlyn Dever, Christoph Sanders and Hector Elizondo. The show features music by Carl Thiel and Monte Montgomery. Thiel has previously co-scored Shorts, the fourth Spy Kids movie and the Planet Terror segment of Grindhouse with director Robert Rodriguez. Montgomery is best known as an acoustic-electric guitar player and makes his TV scoring debut on the series. Another new comedy on ABC is Suburgatory created by Emily Kapnek and starring Jeremy Sisto, Jane Levy, Carly Chaikin, Rex Lee, Allie Grant, Alan Tudyk, Cheryl Hines and Ana Gasteyer. The show follows a single father who decides to get away from New York City to the suburbs so he can give his 15 year-old daughter a better life. Jared Faber is writing the music for the show. The composer has previously collaborated with Kapnek on such animated show as As Told by Ginger and Emily’s Reasons Why Not. Already canceled is the reboot of Charlie’s Angels produced by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar and starring Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor, Annie Ilonzeh and Ramon Rodriguez. Louis Febre (Smallville) composed the music for the show. Visit our previous news article for more information about the project. Also canceled is the half-hour comedy Man Up! created by Christopher Moynihan and starring Dan Fogler, Mather Zickel, Henry Simmons, Teri Polo and Amanda Detmer. The show’s score was written by John Kimbrough (Winter Passing). Coming up on ABC as a mid-season replacement is the drama Missing starring Ashley Judd and Sean Bean. The show is scored by Robert Duncan (click here for more details). Also coming up early next year is the Shonda Rhimes-produced drama Scandal starring Kerry Washington, Henry Ian Cusick and Columbus Short. The show will feature music by Chad Fischer. The returning shows on ABC include Desperate Housewives, which is currently in its eighth and final season and is scored by Steve Jablonsky, the fourth season of the Nathan Fillion-starring hit comedy drama Castle, scored by Robert Duncan and the medical drama Body of Proof starring Dana Delaney and featuring music by Daniel Licht. Also still airing on Thursday nights on the network are the hit shows Grey’s Anatomy, scored by Danny Lux and Private Practice featuring music by Chad Fischer and Timothy Bright. The returning ABC comedies include Happy Endings (music by Ludwig Goransson), Modern Family (music by Gabriel Mann) and The Middle (music by Joey Newman).
