Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the drama Hustlers written and directed by Lorene Scafaria and starring Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo and Cardi B. The movie doesn’t feature an original score. STX Entertainment’s head of music Jason Markey serves as the project’s music supervisor. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Also opening wide is the film adaptation of The Goldfinch directed by John Crowley and starring Ansel Elgort, Nicole Kidman, Oakes Fegley, Aneurin Barnard, Finn Wolfhard, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson, Jeffrey Wright, Ashleigh Cummings and Willa Fitzgerald. Opening in limited release is the thriller Monos co-written and directed by Alejandro Landes and starring Julianne Nicholson, Moisés Arias, Sofia Buenaventura, Deiby Rueda, Karen Quintero, Laura Castrillón, Julián Giraldo, Paul Cubides, Sneider Castro and Wilson Salazar. Mica Levi (Jackie, Under the Skin) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last month. Also opening in limited release is the sci-fi thriller Freaks written and directed by Zach Lipovsky & Adam B. Stein and starring Emile Hirsch, Bruce Dern, Grace Park, Amanda Crew and Lexy Kolker. The film’s original music is composed by Tim Wynn (Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, MECH-X4, XCOM 2, Warhawk). Also opening in select theaters is the horror thriller Haunt written and directed by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods and starring Katie Stevens, Will Brittain and Lauryn Alisa McClain. tomandandy (The Strangers, The Rules of Attraction, The Mothman Prophecies, Sinister 2, Resident Evil: Afterlife & Retribution) have composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select cities is the drama The Sound of Silence co-written and directed by Michael Tyburski and starring Peter Sarsgaard, Rashida Jones, Tony Revolori, Austin Pendleton and Bruce Altman. The film’s original music is composed by Will Bates (The Looming Tower, The Path, I Origins, The Magicians, Imperium). Also opening in limited release is the romantic comedy Can You Keep a Secret? directed by Elise Durán and starring Alexandra Daddario, Tyler Hoechlin, Laverne Cox and Kimiko Glenn. Jeff Cardoni (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Silicon Valley, CSI: Miami, The Kominsky Method, Young Sheldon, Just Friends). No soundtrack album has been released. Another limited release this weekend is the indie thriller Imprisoned written and directed by Paul Kampf and starring Laurence Fishbourne, Juan Pablo Raba, Juana Acosta, John Heard and Esai Morales. The film’s original music is composed and conducted by Robert Rospide. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score was released earlier this month. Also opening select U.S. theaters is the British drama Scarborough co-written and directed by Barnaby Southcombe and starring Jessica Barden, Jordan Bolger, Edward Hogg and Jodhi May. Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Ocean’s 8, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The drama, which opened in the UK last week, is being released stateside by Level 33 Entertainment.
Also opening in select cities and on VOD is the romantic comedy The Weekend written and directed by Stella Meghie and starring Sasheer Zamata, Tone Bell, DeWanda Wise, Y’lan Noel and Kym Whitley. The film’s original score is composed by Robi Botos (Jean of the Joneses). No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in New York before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the documentary Cracked Up directed by Michelle Esrick about comedian, actor, and SNL icon Darrell Hammond. David Robbins (Dead Man Walking, Welcome to Me, Bob Roberts, Cradle Will Rock) has composed the film’s original score. Diane Warren has contributed the original song Hide the Hurt, which is performed by Macy Gray and was released as a digital single today. Click here for more details.
