Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure Warcraft directed by Duncan Jones and starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky and Daniel Wu. The film’s original music composed by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Pacific Rim, Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, Person of Interest). Also opening wide is the action adventure sequel Now You See Me 2 directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Daniel Radcliffe, Lizzy Caplan, Jay Chou, Sanaa Lathan, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. Brian Tyler (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Varese Sarbande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. The third wide release this weekend is the horror sequel The Conjuring 2 directed by James Wan and starring Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Frances O’Connor, Madison Wolfe, Lauren Esposito, Patrick McAuley, Benjamin Haigh, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Simon Delane and Franka Potente. The film’s original music composed by Joseph Bishara (Insidious, Annabelle, Dark Skies) who previously scored the 2013 original film. Mark Isham’s theme written for the original also makes an appearance in the sequel. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring Bishara’s score. Opening in limited release is the drama Genius directed by Michael Grandage, written by John Logan and starring Colin Firth, Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Laura Linney, Guy Pearce and Dominic West. Adam Cork (London Road) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release is the French drama Diary of a Chambermaid directed by Benoît Jacquot and starring Léa Seydoux and Vincent Lindon. The film’s original music is composed by Bruno Coulais (Coraline, The Crimson Rivers, Song of the Sea, The Chorus). Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score in combination with his music for 3 Hearts. Also opening in select cities is the comedy Len & Company directed by Tom Godsall and starring Rhys Ifans, Juno Temple, Jack Kilmer, Keir Gilchrist and Kathryn Hahn. The film’s original score is composed by Miles Hankins (The Night Before). No soundtrack album has been announced. Len & Company follows a successful music producer who quits the industry and exiles himself in upstate New York, when his estranged son comes looking for answers. Another limited release this weekend is the thriller Careful What You Wish For directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum and starring Nick Jonas, Isabel Lucas, Paul Sorvino, Graham Rogers, Kandyse McClure and Dermot Mulroney. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Elf, The Jungle Book) has composed the film’s theme music and Josh Debney (The Road Within) and The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Life of Crime) have composed the movie’s score. No word on a soundtrack release. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by Starz Digital.
Also opening in limited release is the thriller Blackway directed by Daniel Alfredson and starring Anthony Hopkins, Julia Stiles, Alexander Ludwig, Ray Liotta and Hal Holbrook. The film’s original music is composed by Klas Wahl & Anders Niska (The Master Plan). Spinnup has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Also opening in select theaters is the Australian drama Last Cab to Darwin directed by Jeremy Sims and starring Michael Caton, Ningali Lawford-Wolf, Mark Coles Smith, Emma Hamilton, Jacki Weaver, David Field, John Howard and Alan Dukes. Ed Kuepper has composed the film’s original music. Sony Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score when the movie was released in Australia last summer.
