Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
The 3D horror thriller Priest directed by Scott Charles Stewart and starring Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Lily Collins and Christopher Plummer is opening in almost 3000 theaters. Christopher Young has composed the music for the film. A soundtrack album has been released by Madison Gate Records this past Tuesday. Check out our soundtrack announcement for more information.
Also opening nationwide is the comedy Bridesmaids directed by Paul Feig, produced by Judd Apatow and starring Kirsten Wiig, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph and Jon Hamm. The film’s score is written by Michael Andrews. A soundtrack album, featuring twelve songs from the film, as well as one score track by Andrews has been released by Relativity Music. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy drama Everything Must Go. The film is directed by Dan Rush and stars Will Ferrell, Rebecca Hall, Michael Pena, Christopher Jordan Wallace and Laura Dern. David Torn has composed the score for the film as reported earlier on this page. No soundtrack album has been announced yet.
Also opening in select cities is the drama The First Grader based on the true story of an 84-year-old Kenyan man’s battle to get an education. The Justin Chadwicke-directed film is scored by Alex Heffes. A soundtrack release with Heffes’ score is scheduled to come out on June 14, 2011 by Varese Sarabande Records. The thriller The Big Bang directed by Tony Krantz and starring Antonio Banderas, William Fichtner, Thomas Kretschmann, Autumn Reeser, Snoop Dogg and Sam Elliott is also receiving a limited release. The film’s music is by Johnny Marr, who makes his feature scoring debut on the project. It has been announced that soundtrack release is planned for later this year. The movie revolving around a detective who is hired to find a missing stripper will also be available on Blu-Ray and DVD on May 24. For more information on the film, visit the official movie website.
Another limited release is the teenage drama Skateland. The film directed by Anthony Burns stars Heath Freeman, Ashley Greene, Shiloh Fernandez and Taylor Handley. Michael Penn wrote the music for the movie, which is set in the 80’s in Texas. No word on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select theaters is the drama Hesher. The movie directed by Spencer Susser stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rainn Wilson and Natalie Portman. The film centers on 20 something loser who invades the life of an awkward 13 year old boy who lives with his pill-popping father and grandmother. The score is composed by Australian composer Francois Tetaz (also known as Frank Tetaz), who previously scored the indie hit Wolf Creek. No plans for a soundtrack release have been announced. Pantelion Films is releasing the dance drama Go For It! directed by Carmen Marron and starring Aimee Garcia. The film centers on a student with a bad attitude who lives for dancing in the underground clubs of Chicago. The movie marks the first theatrical release for composer Kenny Wood. Finally, also opening in limited release is the drama The High Cost of Living starring Zach Braff and Isabelle Blais. The film tells the story of a young, pregnant woman whose world falls apart when she loses her child in a hit and run accident. Normand Corbeil (Double Jeopardy) composed the movie’s music.
