Another wide release this weekend is the sports drama Sweetwater directed by Martin Guigui and starring Everett Osborne, Kevin Pollak, Emmaline, Jeremy Piven,Cary Elwes and Richard Dreyfuss. Jeff Cardoni (Silicon Valley, Ghosts, The Kominsky Method, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Heels) and Guigui have composed the film’s original music. Fallout Shelter Recordings has released a soundtrack album featuring Cardoni’s score earlier this week (click here for the full album details) and Candid Records has released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie today (click here for more information).
Also opening wide is the Japanese animated fantasy adventure Suzume written and directed by Makoto Shinkai and starring (in its English dub version) Nichole Sakura, voiced by Josh Keaton, Jennifer Sun Bell, Joe Zieja, Lena Josephine Marano, Bennett Hetrick, Rosalie Chiang and Roger Craig Smith. The film’s original music is composed by Radwimps (Your Name, Weathering with You) and Kazuma Jinnouchi. A soundtrack album featuring the music from the movie last fall when the film opened in Japan and is available to stream/download here. The movie is being released in the U.S. by Crunchyroll.
Opening in New York and Los Angeles today before expanding nationwide next weekend is the horror comedy Beau Is Afraid written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Parker Posey, Kylie Rogers, Amy Ryan, Michael Gandolfini, Zoe Lister-Jones and Richard Kind. Bobby Krlic (Midsommar, Blue Beetle, The Returnal, Alienist: Angel of Darkness, Snowpiercer, Triple 9) has composed the film’s original music. A24 Music has released a first track from the composer’s score last month (click here to listen to Sail Away) and a full soundtrack album is expected to come out next week.
Also opening in select theaters this weekend is the documentary Wild Life directed by Chai Vasarhelyi & Jimmy Chin. The film’s original music is composed by Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, The Last of Us, Babel, Finch, The Motorcycle Diaries, The Book of Life) and Juan Luqui (Monsterland, The Fight).
