Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the live-action remake of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon written and directed by Dean DeBlois and stars Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, Julian Dennison, Nick Frost, Gabriel Howell, Ruth Codd, Harry Trevaldwyn and Bronwyn James. The film’s original music is composed by John Powell (The Bourne Identity, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Happy Feet, Wicked, Don’t Worry Darling, Shrek, X-Men: The Last Stand, Bolt). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening nationwide is the romantic comedy drama Materialists written and directed by Celine Song and starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, Zoë Winters, Martin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson and John Magaro. Daniel Pemberton (Spider-Man: Into/Across the Spider-Verse, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Bad Guys, Steve Jobs, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Enola Holmes, Birds of Prey) has composed the film’s original score. A24 Music has released a soundtrack album featuring Pemberton’s music, as well as an original song by Japanese Breakfast and two songs performed by Baby Rose today. Also opening semiwide in around 800 theaters the western The Unholy Trinity directed by Richard Gray and starring Pierce Brosnan, Samuel L. Jackson, Veronica Ferres, Brandon Lessard and Q’orianka Kilcher. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Logan, Scream, A Quiet Place, The Hurt Locker, Ford v. Ferrari, World War Z, Blade II, The Wolverine) and Tristan Beltrami. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Opening in select theaters this weekend is the documentary Prime Minister directed by Michelle Walshe & Lindsay Utz about the life of former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. Sofia degli Alessandri (aka Drum & Lace) (Red, White & Royal Blue, Dickinson, Cobweb, Rosaline, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, Summering) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie, which follows Ardern through five tumultuous years in power and beyond as she redefined leadership on the world stage, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Magnolia Pictures, HBO Documentary Films and CNN Films.
Opening in New York today before expanding to more markets in the coming weeks is the drama Tatami directed by Guy Nattiv & Zar Amir Ebrahimi and starrring Arienne Mandi, Amir herself, Ash Golde and Jaime Ray Newman. The film’s original music is composed by Dascha Dauenhauer (Golda, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Blood Red Sky, The Swarm, Bliss, A Million Minutes, Souls). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the project’s title song produced by the Dauenhauer and performed by Justina in early 2024 when the movie opened in Italy. Also opening in select theaters is the New Zealand historical action drama In the Fire of War (Ka Whawhai Tonu) directed by Michael Jonathan and starring Temuera Morrison, Paku Fernandez, Jason Flemyng, Cliff Curtis, Hinerangi Harawira-Nicholas, Te Wakaunua, Miriama Smith and Te Kurapa. Tiki Taane & Arli Liberman (Savage, Stylebender) have composed the film’s original music. Digital Rights Management has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as the song Hold On to the Dream performed by Louis Baker this past January. Opening in select theaters while also premiering on Apple TV+ today (following an exclusively engagement at the IFC Center in New York last week) is the thriller Echo Valley directed by Michael Pearce and starring Julianne Moore, Sydney Sweeney, Domhnall Gleeson, Kyle MacLachlan and Fiona Shaw. Valley. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, The Babadook, Macbeth, The Order, Overlord, The Snowtown Murders, Monkey Man, The Mustang, Assassin’s Creed The Pope’s Exorcist).
