“I found there were two important keys to unlocking the score for Echo Valley,” shares composer Jed Kurzel. “The Mother and Daughter relationship and the environment in which the film takes place, particularly the lake. So much of the story is influenced by what is under and around the lake that I felt the music should represent its presence throughout the film. The strings are organic, rustic and woody, texturally like something you may find on the banks or lakes bed. I also incorporated synthetic elements to push the score into unnerving territory, like it was being corrupted by a darker energy. I used a similar technique with the sound of the Mother/Daughter relationship. Warm and comforting but with an ever present underlying dissonance. Working with the film’s director Michael Pearce and his crew again was an absolute joy!”
