Opening in theaters nationwide this week is the animated sequel Moana 2 directed by Dave Derrick Jr., co-directed by Jason Hand and starring Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Gerald Faitala Ramsey, Rachel House, Alan Tudyk, Hualālai Chung, Awhimai Fraser, Temuera Morrison and Nicole Scherzinger. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Mancina (Tarzan, Twister, Speed, Bad Boys, August Rush, Brother Bear) and the movie’s original songs are written by Abigail Barlow & Emily Bear (The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical), Opetaia Foa’i and Mancina. Walt Disney Records has released two soundtrack albums featuring the songs and score over the last week. Opening in select theaters this week is the drama Queer directed by Luca Guadagnin and starring Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Henrique Zaga, Lesley Manville and Jason Schwartzman. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Soul, Watchmen, Challengers, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Bones and All) have composed the film’s original score and also contributed an original song. Warner Records has released another song inspired by the movie produced by the composers and performed by Omar Apollo last week. Also opening in select U.S. theaters this week is the political thriller The Seed of the Sacred Fig written and directed by Mohammad Rasoulof and starring Misagh Zare, Soheila Golestani, Niousha Akhshi, Mahsa Rostami, Setareh Maleki, Amineh Arani, Reza Akhlaghi and Shiva Ordooe. The film’s original music is composed by Karzan Mahmood (Agent Hamilton, Bullets, Zero Nine, The Lawyer). Music Super Circus has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last month. Opening in select theaters this weekend before premiering on Netflix on December 11 is the biographical drama Maria directed by Pablo Larraín and starring Angelina Jolie, Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Stephen Ashfield, Valeria Golino and Haluk Bilginer. The movie doesn’t feature an original score. John Warhurst serves as the project’s executive music producer. Warner Classics has released a soundtrack album featuring restored audio by soprano Maria Callas today. The film’s original music is composed by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Identity, Wicked, Solo: A Star Wars Story, United 93, Shrek, Happy Feet, Rio). Gingerbread Man Records has released a separate digital single featuring Ed Sheeran’s original song Under the Tree earlier this week (click here to listen to the track).
Opening exclusively at Pacific Palisades’ Bay Theater while also premiering on Netflix this week is the romantic comedy Our Little Secret directed by Stephen Herek and starring Lindsay Lohan, Ian Harding, Jon Rudnitsky, Kristin Chenoweth,Tim Meadows, Chris Parnell, Henry Czerny, Judy Reyes, Dan Bucatinsky, Katie Baker and Ash Santos. Emily Bear (Dog Gone, K-POPS) has composed the film’s original music. Netflix Music has released a soundtrack album featuring Bear’s score and a song by Aliana Lohan this past Wednesday.
