Robbie Robertson has passed away today at age 80. The songwriter, composer and guitarist who was best known as a member of the rock group The Band and his solo records has worked on numerous films directed by Martin Scorsese over the last couple of decades. He has scored the director’s 1986 feature The Color of Money, as well as his last two movies, 2019’s The Irishman and the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released in theaters on October 6. He served as the music producer of Scorsese’s Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, Silence, among other projects and as the music consultant of 1995’s Casino and music supervisor of 2010’s Shutter Island. He also composed the score for Barry Levinson’s 1994 comedy Jimmy Hollywood, contributed music to Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday and wrote an original song for Jay Russell’s Ladder 49.
