Carlos Rafael Rivera (The Queen’s Gambit, Godless, A Walk Among the Tombstones, Just Beyond) has composed the original music for the upcoming Netflix original film Chupa. The movie is directed by Jonas Cuaron (Desierto, co-writer of Gravity) and stars Demián Bichir, Evan Whitten, Christian Slater, Nickolas Verdugo, Ashley Ciarra, Adriana Paz, Gerardo Taracena and Julio Cesar Cedillo. The family adventure drama tells the story of a lonely boy who befriends a mythical creature hiding on his grandfather’s ranch while visiting family in Mexico and embarks on the adventure of a lifetime. Sean Kennedy Moore, Joe Barnathan and Marcus Rinehart wrote the screenplay. Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire), Michael Barnathan (Night at the Museum, The Christmas Chronicles) and Mark Radcliffe (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Rent) are producing the project for 26th Street Pictures. Chupa will premiere on April 7, 2023 on Netflix.
Rivera is also expected to continue to co-score HBO Max’s Hacks, which will return for a third season later this year.
