Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Bad Education, Allen v. Farrow, Nightbooks, See You Yesterday) has recently scored the new Netflix original film Beauty. The movie is directed by Andrew Dosunmu (Mother of George, Where Is Kyra?) and stars Gracie Marie Bradley, Aleyse Shannon, Niecy Nash, Giancarlo Esposito, Kyle Bary, Micheal Ward, Sharon Stone and Sarah Stavrou. The drama follows a young singer on the brink of a promising career who finds herself torn between a domineering family, industry pressures and her love for her girlfriend. Lena Waithe (Queen & Slim, The Chi) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the project with Michael Ellenberg (The Morning Show, Pachinko). Beauty is being released in select theaters this Wednesday, June 22 and will premiere on June 29 on Netflix.
Abels’ other upcoming projects include Jordan Peele’s Nope (to be released in theaters on July 22) and Stephen Williams’ Chevalier. He also composed the music for Abi Damaris Corbin’s Breaking, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Festival (under the title 892) and will be released in theaters on August 26 by Bleecker Street.
