Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album for the new television adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet on the Western Front, Conclave, Lion, Hotel Mumbai, Patrick Melrose, Adrift, The Crow, The Old Guard, One Life). Visit Amazon or any other major digital music services to stream/download the soundtrack. Also listen to the composer’s “opening” track after the jump. The Count of Monte Cristo is directed by Bille August and stars Sam Claflin, Jeremy Irons, Ana Girardot, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Karla-Simone Spence, Blake Ritson, Michele Riondino, Gabriella Pession, Lino Guanciale and Nicolas Maupas. The 8-parter tells the story of Edmond Dantes who is falsely accused of treason and is imprisoned without trial in a grim island fortress off Marseille before escaping to seek revenge. This sounds like another computer generated score with no heart or memorable themes, once again from a boring composer.
