Opening in theaters nationwide is the disaster movie Moonfall co-written and directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Halle Berry, John Bradley, Patrick Wilson, Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Eme Ikwuakor, Carolina Bartczak and Donald Sutherland. The film’s original score is composed by Thomas Wander & Harald Kloser (The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, Midway, White House Down, Independence Day: Resurgence). Atlantic Screen Music/Filmtrax has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as the original song One More Time by Luka Kloser. Also opening wide is the comedy Jackass Forever directed by Jeff Tremaine and starring Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Danger Ehren, Dave England, Wee Man and Preston Lacy. Joseph Shirley (The Book of Boba Fett, The Mysterious Benedict Society, Bad Trip, Fairfax) has composed the score for the film’s opening sequence. Paramount Music has released a new version of the song If You’re Gonna Be Dumb, You Gotta Be Tough recorded for the movie by Yelawolf & DJ Paul. Also opening nationwide is the family adventure The Wolf and the Lion directed by Gilles de Maistre and starring Molly Kunz, Graham Greene and Charlie Carrick. The film’s original music is composed by Armand Amar (The Concert, Mia and the White Lion, The Source, A Bag of Marbles, Belle & Sebastian, The History of Love). Long Distance has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last fall when the movie opened in France. Opening in select U.S. theaters is the Norwegian dramedy The Worst Person in the World (Verdens verste menneske) co-written and directed by Joachim Trier and starring Renate Reinsve, Anders Danielsen Lie, Herbert Nordrum. Ola Flottum (Thelma, Force Majeure, Louder Than Bombs, Lost Girls and Love Hotels) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which chronicles four years in the life of a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released stateside by Neon.
Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the mystery thriller Last Looks directed by Tim Kirkby and starring Charlie Hunnam, Morena Baccarin, Mel Gibson, Dominic Monaghan, Lucy Fry, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Clancy Brown and Rupert Friend. The film’s original music is composed by Peter Nashel (I, Tonya, The Night Listener, Marco Polo, Book Club, Totally Under Control, Bee Season). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows a New York transplant who returns to her childhood southern stomping grounds to investigate a lead while searching for her parents, is being released by Well Go USA Entertainment.
Another movie opening in select theaters and on VOD is the sci-fi thriller Last Survivors directed by Drew Mylrea and starring Drew Van Acker, Stephen Moyer and Alicia Silverstone. The film’s original score is composed by David Deutsch. The composer’s music is available to download on Bandcamp. Riveting Music has released a soundtrack EP featuring the original songs from the movie by Baker Grace today. The movie, which follows an architect who is diagnosed with a rare eye disease, entering him into a surreal reality in which he sees people’s true motives, is being distributed by Gravitas Ventures.
