Aska Matsumiya (Skate KitchenI’m Your WomanSelah and the Spades37 Seconds) has composed a new score for the upcoming sports drama Bruised. The film marks the feature directorial of Halle Berry who also stars in the movie, alongside Adan Canto, Sheila Atim, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Shamier Anderson. The drama follows a former MMA fighter struggling to regain custody of her son and restart her athletic career. Michelle Rosenfarb wrote the screenplay. Basil Iwanyk (Sicario, The Town), Erica Lee (John Wick series), Brad Feinstein (The Banker), Linda Gottlieb (Dirty Dancing) and Guymon Casady (Steve Jobs, Hope Springs) are producing the project. Terence Blanchard has previously scored the original version of the movie, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival. Bruised will premiere later this year on Netflix.

As previously reported, also has After Yang (to premiere this week at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival) coming up and also continues to score HBO’s Betty, which currently airs in its second season every Friday night.
