Premiering tonight is the third season of the Starz anthology series The Girlfriend Experience written and directed by Anja Marquardt (based on Steven Soderbergh’s feature of the same title) and starring Julia Goldani Telles. Matthew Pusti (A Good Woman Is Hard to Find, Whistleblower) has composed the original music for Season 3 and follows Shane Carruth and the Mondo Boys who scored the first two seasons. The third season, which is set amidst the London tech scene and follows a neuroscience major who begins to explore the transactional world of The Girlfriend Experience, only to find herself deep inside the uncanny valley with the relationships she creates, will air Sunday nights on Starz.
Premiering on Tuesday, May 4, is Lucasfilm’s Disney+ original series Star Wars: The Bad Batch created by Dave Filoni and starring Dee Bradley Baker, Ming-Na Wen, Stephen Stanton and Andrew Kishino. The show’s original music is composed by Kevin Kiner (Narcos: Mexico, Doom Patrol, CSI: Miami, Titans, City on a Hill, Making a Murderer) who previously scored all episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (and the feature of the same title) and Star Wars Rebels. Premiering on Wednesday, May 5, is the Netflix docu-series The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness directed by Joshua Zeman, narrated by Paul Giamatti about the Sons of Sam case that grew into a lifelong obsession for journalist Maury Terry. Justin Melland (The Innocence Files, Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes,Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, Wrong Man) has composed the show’s original music. Premiering in the U.S. on Thursday, May 6, is the British drama The Drowning created by Francesca Brill & Luke Watson, directed by Carolina Giammetta and starring Jill Halfpenny, Jonas Armstrong, Cody Molko and Rupert Penry-Jones. The show’s original music is composed by Sarah Warne (Humans, Des, Dark Money, Time). Premiering on Friday, May 7, is the Netflix original series Jupiter’s Legacy developed by Steven S. DeKnight based on Mark Millar’s & Frank Quitely’s graphic novels and starring Josh Duhamel, Ben Daniels, Leslie Bibb,Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton and Matt Lanter. Stephanie Economou (Manhunt: Deadly Games, Step Up: High Water, Marvel’s 616) has composed the show’s original music. Also premiering on Friday is the drama Monster directed by Anthony Mandler and starring Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, Jennifer Ehle, Tim Blake Nelson, Nasir ‘Nas’ Jones, Rakim Mayers, Paul Ben-Victor, John David Washington, Jharrel Jerome and Dorian Missick. The film’s original music is composed by Harvey Mason, Jr. (More Than a Game). The movie, which follows a talented teen implicated in a robbery-turned-murder as he fights for his innocence and integrity, premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival (under the title All Rise) and will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
Another movie premiering on Friday is the documentary The Boy from Medellin directed by Matthew Heineman about Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin’s preparation of his 2019 homecoming concert amid intense political turmoil. H. Scott Salinas (The Banker, The Ballad of Lefty Brown,Warrior, Baghdad Central, Sea of Shadows) and songwriter/record producer Sky Rompiendo have composed the film’s original music.
