Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:

Already playing in theaters since this past Tuesday is Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Far from Home directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film’s original music composed by Michael Giacchino (UpStar TrekJurassic World,  LostThe IncrediblesRogue One: A Star Wars Story). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Click here for the full album details.

Playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the horror movie Midsommar written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgran, Archie Madekwe, Ellora Torchia and Will Poulter. Bobby Krlic (aka The Haxan Cloak) (Triple 9Seven SecondsShooter) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Check out our soundtrack announcement for the full album details. 

Opening in limited release is the documentary Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love directed by Nick Broomfield about the enduring love between Leonard Cohen and his Norwegian muse Marianne Ihlen. The film’s original score is composed by Nick Laird-Clowes (About TimeFierce PeopleThe Invisible Circus). Check out our previous news article and the official movie website for more information about the movie, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released theatrically by Roadside Attractions.

Also opening in limited release is the drama My Days of Mercy directed by Tali Shalom-Ezer and starring Ellen Page, Kate Mara, Amy Seimetz and Elias Koteas. Michael Brook (Brooklyn, Into the Wild, The Vow, The Fighter, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie, which follows the daughter of a man on death row who falls in love with a woman on the opposing side of her family’s political cause, premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD today by Great Point Media.

Also opening in select theaters is the indie comedy Phil directed by Greg Kinnear who also stars in the movie alongside Emily Mortimer, Jay Duplass, Taylor Schilling, Kurt Fuller, Luke Wilson and Bradley Whitford. The film’s original music is composed by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Legally Blonde, Election, Wedding Crashers, About Schmidt, Downsizing). No word on a soundtrack release.
