ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, has announced today that Michael Giacchino will be honored at this year’s 34th ASCAP Screen Music Awards, which takes place on May 15 in Beverly Hills. The Academy Award-, Emmy Award- and Grammy Award-winning composer whose credits include Up, The Incredibles, Lost, Ratatouille, Star Trek, Jurassic World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Doctor Strange, among dozens of other titles, will receive the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award. Pinar Toprak, who recently scored Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel, will be honored with the ASCAP Shirley Walker Award for her achievements and Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman, La La Land) will also be recognized with the ASCAP Vanguard Award, which salutes ASCAP members whose innovative work is helping to shape the future of music— the first time the award has been presented to music creators known for their film and musical theatre accomplishments. In addition, composers and songwriters of the top box office film music, top-rated TV series and the most performed television music of 2018 will also be honored and the winners of the annual ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards, open to voting by all eligible ASCAP writer members in early April, will be revealed at the ceremony.
