He previously received a Critics’ Choice Award for his score for Chazelle’s La La Land in 2017. The other composers nominated in the Best Score category were Kris Bowers for Green Book, Nicholas Britell for If Beale Street Could Talk, Alexandre Desplat for Isle of Dogs, Ludwig Goransson for Black Panther and Marc Shaiman for Mary Poppins Returns.

In the Best Song category, Lady GagaMark RonsonAnthony Rossomando & Andrew Wyatt were honored for the song Shallow from A Star Is Born.
