Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch directed by Scott Mosier & Yarrow Cheney and starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman, Alice in Wonderland, Nightmare Before Christmas). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (click here for the full album details). Columbia Records has released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie, including an original song by Tyler, the Creator (click here for more information).
Also opening wide is the thriller The Girl in the Spider’s Web directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Claire Foy, Sverrir Gudnason, Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund and Vicky Krieps. Roque Banos (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead, In the Heart of the Sea, The Machinist, The Commuter) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening nationwide is the horror thriller Overlord directed by Julius Avery, produced by J.J. Abrams and starring Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Pilou Asbæk, John Magaro and Mathilde Ollivier. Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, Assassin’s Creed, Macbeth, The Snowtown Murders, Son of a Gun) has composed the film’s original music. Already playing in select theaters since this past Tuesday is the biographical drama The Front Runner co-written and directed by Jason Reitman and starring Hugh Jackman, Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons and Alfred Molina. Rob Simonsen (Love, Simon, The Spectacular Now, Foxcatcher, Nerve, Tully, (500) Days of Summer) has composed the film’s original music. Opening in select theaters this week before premiering on Netflix on November 16 is the western anthology The Ballad of Buster Scruggs written and directed by Joel & Ethan Coen and starring Tim Blake Nelson, Willie Watson, David Krumholtz, James Franco, Stephen Root, Ralph Ineson, Liam Neeson, Harry Melling, Tom Waits, Zoe Kazan and Brendan Gleeson. The film’s original music is composed by Carter Burwell (Fargo, Carol, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). Also opening in limited release is the romantic comedy Time Freak written and directed by Andrew Bowler and starring Asa Butterfield, Sophie Turner, Skyler Gisondo, Will Peltz and Aubrey Reynolds. Andrew Lockington (San Andreas, Rampage, The Space Between Us, Journey to the Center of the Earth) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select cities is the comedy The Long Dumb Road co-written and directed by Hannah Fidell and starring Tony Revolori, Jason Mantzoukas, Taissa Farmiga, Grace Gummer, Casey Wilson and Ron Livingston. The film’s original music is composed by Keegan DeWitt (Hearts Beat Loud, I’ll See You in My Dreams, The Hero, Divorce). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows two guys who decide to embark on an unplanned road trip across the American Southwest, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released in theaters this weekend before a VOD on November 16.
