Harry Gregson-Williams is set to reteam with director Niki Caro on the upcoming live-action movie adaptation of Disney’s Mulan. The film stars Liu Yifei in the title role, alongside Jet Li as the emperor of China, as well as Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Gong Li, Yoson An, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ron Yuan, Tzi Ma, Rosalind Chao, Cheng Pei-Pei, Nelson Lee and Chum Ehelepola. The movie is based on the 1998 animated classic (scored by Jerry Goldsmith) and tells the story of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Jurassic World, In the Heart of the Sea) and Elizabeth Martin & Lauren Hynek have written the screenplay based on the narrative poem The Ballad of Mulan. Chris Bender (We’re the Millers, A History of Violence), Jason Reed and Jake Weiner (Criminal, Leap Year) are producing the project. Gregson-Williams has previously collaborated with Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland, USA) on her last feature The Zookeeper’s Wife. Mulan is expected to be released on March 27, 2020 by Walt Disney Pictures.

Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek series, The Martian, Man on Fire) has recently scored The Equalizer 2 and The Meg, both of which are currently playing in theaters nationwide. The composer also has Disneynature’s next feature Penguins coming up.

  3. Michael Kurland says:

I certainly hope that Harry Gregson-Williams will include certain motifs from the animated film’s score composed by the late Jerry Goldsmith as well as instrumental versions of the songs.

  4. Tony says:

It’s the same composer that did Narnia! If I know Harry Gregson Williams and Disney, he will not let us down or disappoint Jerry Goldsmith.
