Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and starring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, David Spade and Steve Buscemi. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The LEGO Movie). Selections of the composer’s score are available on a soundtrack compilation featuring the composer’s music from all three movies in the series (click here for the full details). Madison Gate Records has released the original song It’s Party Time written by David Foster & Michael Bublé and performed by Joe Jonas (click here for more information). Also available are digital singles feat. Tiësto’s DJ music from the movie, as well as the song I See Love by Jonas Blue feat. Joe Jonas.
Also opening wide is the action thriller Skyscraper directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and starring Dwayne Johnson, Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Roland Møller, Pablo Schreiber, Hannah Quinlivan, Byron Mann and Noah Taylor. Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, The Island, Ender’s Game, Deepwater Horizon) has composed the film’s original music. Opening in limited release is the drama Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot written and directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara and Jack Black. The film’s original score is composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas). Also opening in limited release is the comedy drama Eighth Grade written and directed by Bo Burnham and starring Elsie Fisher, Josh Hamilton, Emily Robinson and Jake Ryan. Anna Meredith has made her film scoring debut on the project. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select theaters is the political drama Shock and Awe directed by Rob Reiner and starring Woody Harrelson, James Marsden, Tommy Lee Jones, Reiner himself, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Biel, Luke Tennie and Richard Schiff. The film’s original music is composed by Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Rome, Monk, Appaloosa, Pollock, Ugly Betty). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Another limited release this week is the thriller Siberia directed by Matthew Ross and starring Keanu Reeves, Ana Ularu, Pasha D. Lychnikoff, Dmitry Chepovetsky, James Gracie, Eugene Lipinski, Rafael Petardi, Veronica Ferres and Molly Ringwald. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (The Gift, Boy Erased, Ozark, Fear the Walking Dead) have composed the film’s original music. The movie follows a a U.S. diamond merchant and his lover who are caught in a lethal crossfire between the buyer and federal intelligence service when a business deal in Russia goes wrong. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by Saban Films.
Also opening in select cities is the comedy drama A Midsummer Night’s Dream co-written and directed by Casey Wilder Mott and stars Rachael Leigh Cook, Finn Wittrock, Hamish Linklater, Lily Rabe, Avan Jogia, Ted Levine, Fran Kranz, Paz de la Huerta and Saul Williams. The film’s original music is composed by singer/songwriter Mia Todd Doi who collaborated with artists such as Saul Williams, Tunde Adebimpe, Dntel, Dungen, Luis Pérez Ixoneztli and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson on her score. Already playing in select U.S. theaters since this past Wednesday is the biographical drama Gauguin: Voyage To Tahiti co-written and directed by Édouard Deluc and starring Vincent Cassel, Tuhei Adams, Malik Zidi and Pua-Tai Hikutini. Warren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Hell or High Water, Wind River, Lawless, The Proposition) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as four tracks by Nick Cave & Ellis from their White Lunar compilation.
