Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales directed by Joachim Rønning & Espen Sandberg and starring Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites and Geoffrey Rush. The film’s original music is composed by Geoff Zanelli (Disturbia, Into the West, The Pacific, The Odd Life of Timothy Green). Also opening wide is the action comedy Baywatch directed by Seth Gordon and starring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera and Jon Bass. Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Sausage Party, Ride Along, Supernatural) has composed the film’s original music. Opening in limited release is the Australian thriller Berlin Syndrome directed by Cate Shortland and starring Teresa Palmer and Max Riemelt. The film’s original music is composed by Bryony Marks (Felony, Please Like Me, A Month of Sundays). LilliPilli IP has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last month. Also opening in select cities is the documentary Long Strange Trip directed by Amir Bar-Lev and executive produced by Martin Scorsese about the rise of the rock band Grateful Dead from their Bay Area roots to stadiums around the world. Rhino Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie today. Also opening in limited release is the dramatic thriller Black Butterfly directed by Brian Goodman and starring Antonio Banderas, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Piper Perabo. The film’s original music is composed by Federico Jusid (The Secret In Their Eyes, Misconduct, Neruda). No soundtrack album has been announced. The thriller revolves around a down-on-his-luck screenwriter who picks up a drifter and offers him a place to stay. The movie is being released in theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate Premiere.
Opening in select theaters while also premiering on Netflix today is the satire War Machine directed by David Michod and starring Brad Pitt, Topher Grace, Emory Cohen, Tilda Swinton, Anthony Michael Hall, Will Poulter, Jonathan Ing and Ben Kingsley. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Hell or High Water, Lawless, The Proposition) have composed the film’s original score.
